In BG1, this spell had an upper HD limit on what it could affect, but in the BG2 manual the description for this spell does not list one. Has it been removed.. can it render powerful creatures unconscious? |

Are you sure? It worked against me at the start of the game with those portal spawning mephits, knocking my 6th enchanter/9th level thief clean out! |

I don't know if the mephits' Color Spray effect is the same one you get from the spell, but in my experience, anything that can reasonably be expected to be affected by the spell is so weak that you can easily deal with it in other ways. I'd rather use that spell slot on something else. If you want to cast a level 1 save-or-else spell, I'd much rather use Chromatic Orb.
BG1, where even a couple of gibberlings can kill you if you're unlucky, is a different story, although even then, I'd rather go for Sleep.Edited By Jah77 on 11/05/09 11:16 |

I'd choose Blindness over Chromatic Orb as it knocks an opponent out of the fight and will doom them (pull out a bow and shoot them from a distance). Also, I can't use Chromatic Orb as its invocation and my mage side is an enchanter. so there is that.
I'm curious about colour spray because it looks like they've boosted its area of effect from BG1 and removed the HD restriction - if so, it might come in handy as a sleep spell with no HD limit. |

Fixpack updates the description of Colour Spray. As with Colour spray Blindness isn't going to effect anything you can't squash under your foot. |

What should the colour spray description be... does it have an upper HD limit? |

All creature in the area of effect that are 4th or LESS Must make a saving throw.......
Meaning if anything is level 5 or above, it's immune. The imp's are obviously using some spesific racial thingie as you're above level 5.
And that is why it's useful in baldur's gate I (Yet not as useful as sleep) But useless in baldur's gate II as everyone and their mother (Except goblings, obviously) are immune to it.Edited By TheFrozenWasteland on 11/05/09 14:04 |
