Sorry if this topic has already surfaced in the forums before.
What is the basis of class distinction in this game ? Do we create our character with pre-defined classes like that seen in Mass Effect (and most RPG's for that matter) or is it something we develop from the ground up beginning from character creation.
What I mean by this is do we 'define' our own class by doing 'more' of a particular type of combat ie magic, melee, ranged etc like that seen in Dungeon Siege ?
Thanks for any feedback |

Well, I might be outdated there, but I know that
- DA will have 3 start classes - strength based warrior, dexterity based warrior (aka rogue), spellcaster
- After some leveling, the starter classes can specialize. We dont know much about what specialized classes exactly will pop up, but one can rely on getting the usual fantasy archetypes, such as ranger or bard, even if they might be different than in other games.
- Magic will be mana based.
- There will be only one "type" of magic, i.e. there will be not distinction between divine and arcane magic. _________________ We are such stuff / As dreams are made on, and our little life / Is rounded with a sleep. - Prospero, The Tempest, by ShakespeareEdited By Gecon on 12/10/07 15:11 |

There are no class based item usage restrictions (e.g. if you want to wield a sword with your mage, go ahead). _________________ Level 21 German Combat Monkey Lead Systems Designer, Dragon Age: Origins. |

Will there be attribute based restrictions? meaning a character is too weak, has not enough points in one skill or not the right feat? Or is it more along the line of "You can use it, but you're gonna suck at it"? |

I believe the only thing that's been said on the matter of requirements is that you might not have the stamina to make full use.
I.E. A Warrior could swing their sword all day in any number of dramatic fashions, Mage... not so much. _________________

At this time, I can say that we have no plans to impliment a z-axis in Dragon age.
DA is a 2D sprite based game! - Secret of Mana is the precursor to DA! |

You can indeed swing your sword all day in regular fashion (if not dramatic). _________________ Zevran: "Hello my stocky little friend!" Oghren: "Huh. You got small breasts for a gal." Zevran: "Ah.
