Well Mass Effect is out now, my reason for buying a 360, and it looks to be an absolute masterpiece - the graphics, the facial expressions, voice acting, the sound track, all of it! The utmost respect and congratulations to Bioware for that epic game.
But something that concerns me is whether Dragon Age will live up to the incredibly high standard set by Mass Effect. When BW released some DA screen shots three years ago they were okay I guess, but today it would be kind to call them sub-par, and they will be downright rubbish in 2008/2009 unless there's been a day/night change. What about those facial expressions and that awesome conversation system M.E. has, will DA have any of that? Doubt it.
Unless DA has some incredible story and originality up its sleeve, or its going to be as long as BG2, it looks like it will be a far inferior game to Mass Effect (I don't think there will be any contest in terms of graphics, and even the rest is hard to beat). |

Oh, we've long since changed the game to a text adventure, just to avoid comparisons with Mass Effect. But it is a next-gen text adventure. We have text that is bleeding edge quality in font and point size. _________________ A PLAGUE OF KITTENS UPON THEE! |

LOL, looking forward to it! Looks like I've got to upgrade my monitor to play this, my current resolution may not support your text display requirements...
Bioware's track record so far has been a continuous stream of games with superb storylines packed into increasingly impressive audio and visuals. If EA hasn't made any major changes to Bioware's creative environment, I have every confidence that this success will continue.
I'm excited by the prospect of ME presentation in a medieval/fantasy setting! I only worry that DA will be resource hog. I have trouble enough running NWN2 on my ageing PC... |

You know, those 'screenshots' of 3 years ago were of the concept version, built in the NWN engine. The newer screenshots look different and much better already - and that's still without all the graphical polish effects.
Compare it, if you will, to a roughly chiseled statue of a woman. It becomes much prettier once all the curves are smoothed and the rough edges are removed. _________________ On life's journey faith is nourishment, virtuous deeds are a shelter, wisdom is the light by day and right mindfulness is the protection by night. This may be unfortunate, but I suspect that some "profeshunal" game reviewers will knock off points because DA's dialogue system won't be the same as ME's, saying that BioWare is taking a step backwards. |

I might be joking, but even I don't know. |

IMHO DA should be more like BG 2 than ME, because i'm still looking for something that will be better than BG series.
ME is flashy, stylish but it just cant beat BG... i dont know what you guys did with that game, it was brilliant. |

I've played it (even though it's not registered yet) and a lot of what he says is true. Dunno if I'd call it a masterpiece, but it certainly is a great experience and IMHO the best game for the console.
I really don't think the two can be compared, though. ME plays a lot like an updated KotOR with much better combat and dialog system (IMHO). DA, on the other hand, seems like it's going to be similar to BG II, only more advanced, better-looking, and (probably) shorter. They're both completely different and I get the feeling it's essentially like comparing apples and oranges - both fruits, but completely different in terms of almost everything else that counts.
'Course, I could be completely off my rocker here. |

I hope it's much more like the Baldurs Gate series than anything else. Nothing has enthralled me like that game did. No storyline has been as compelling as that of the child of bhaal. It's unfortunate that NWN campaign games fell short in the story area.
Tho it did fall short in that respect, I played NWN for three years on a multiplayer persistent world server. Even tho NWN wasn't really made for persistent worlds, that's where I think it had it's greatest success.
I would love...greatly love...to see Bioware create a game with player created persistent worlds in mind. Storyline mods are cool I guess, but they just don't stand up to the enduring fun and DM/player creativity found in the ongoing experience of a persistent world. I realize DA isn't going to be that game, but I hope Bioware will make one in the future.Edited By BarakIII on 11/30/07 12:13 |

Blasphemer!!!
Ah well everyone has different tastes.
I too am looking forward to a BG-like game. Mass effect looks to me to be much more action orientated. A squad based tactical combat game. While DA will still be squad based and tactical, but the emphasis on character interaction and story. Iether way, bioware tends to make good games (well NWN was still a dissapointment) so whatever they do i am expecting some enjoyment when i do finally play it(prob 2010). _________________ Michael FurlongEdited By DeathnightF1 on 11/30/07 14:08 |

Fear not, Dragon Age will be the closest Bioware title to baldur's gate since... well, baldur's gate.

ME is technically advanced in some areas but not so much in others. Also as a trade off they seem to have somewhat skimped on content, although I'm reserving judgment until I'm done. Hopefully DA will provide prodigious content. |
