In our world we have celebs and directors and such; will there be any of the sort in Dragon Age? Such as some famous actor or playwright; or maybe meeting the DA "Shakespeare". Anyone have an Idea? |

This is a good a idea actually, I liked Elminster, Volo and Drizzt that made appearances in BG, they all had character and the former twos contributions to the manual made it a riot to read. Edited By Biowarian on 10/30/07 21:01 |

Can we please just get a good game with a great and interesting story, a rich game world, and complex party and non-party characters - and no "celebrities" of any sort, except maybe the return of good voiceactors like Melissa Disney (Imoen etc), Jim Cummings (Minsc), David Warner (Jon Irenicus), Grey DeLisle (Viconia, Nalia etc), John Mariano (Kagain) etc. _________________ We are such stuff / As dreams are made on, and our little life / Is rounded with a sleep. - Prospero, The Tempest, by Shakespeare |

Which is why they should create them. I hadn't played D&D before Baldur's Gate and so I wasn't aware of any of the characters mentioned beforehand, but beginning in the manual I got them presented right away. |

Celebrities, in the modern sense, belong in the modern world. That's not to say that TheDAS couldn't include famous people. They'd just be famous more for their great deeds or immense wealth and less for their looks/singing/acting/whatever, and they'd probably not have nearly the same level of name or (especially) face recognition as the celebrities of today. |

True, but Drizzt was widely recognized in the forgotten realms; I think it would be cool to have some famous heroes that you run into and maybe team up with possibly. |

I've nothing against great heroes. I just think it would more realistic (not to mention immersive ) if the greatest heroes were all in the past, since great deeds tend to grow in the telling.
The Forgotten Realms is a great setting, but if the darker, more grounded vibe we've been hearing about for DA actually materializes, I'd expect it to be less like our own world than FR. That includes a much lower level of communication for technological reasons, which in turn means that fame is generally a more local than global phenomenon, and even if someone is "world-famous" it only means that wherever he goes, *someone* (as opposed to nearly everyone) has heard of him. |

We're talkin about in-game celebrities Gecon. Agree with you, though, those are probably the best voice actors ever.
Wouldn't the king count as a celebrity? With the queen and all the little royal brats. Some great heroes of the past seem reasonable. Since they're probably long dead you wouldn't have to discuss whether they should be recognised on the street. _________________ It may be a touch unladylike, but I'm gonna slit your throat I am |

Hmmh, well, there could be famous people in Thedas (kings, warlords, warriors of legendary skill, etc.), but we, the players, still wouldnt know them because we have never been in Thedas before. I mean, you knew Drizzt from books, right. But there arent any Thedas books (yet?), so... _________________ DA is a zombie musical! |

A DA book would be sweet. But for now maybe we could have some famous vet from some war or somthing who trains us or somethin. |

I had never heard about Drizzt before when I met him in Baldur's Gate. If there are celebrities I would like to hear about them from the NPCs or books in the game, even if there is a book in real life. Baldur's Gate kind of assumed everyone already knew who Drizzt and Elminster were. Games shouldn't demand that the player has knowledge they haven't actually given him in the game.
The zombie kittens will certainly need a vet after I'm done with them... _________________ Edit: I won't tell you what I edited! Being a perfectionist I have the right to edit as much as I want!Edited By Chokladglass on 11/01/07 11:19 |

As has been pointed out, the "celebrity" is a pretty modern invention. Dragon Age will have people who are well-known for one reason or another as well as its share of legends and heroes (some of which you will read about in-game, if you care to).
I don't think we have any legendary figures showing up in the course of this story, but perhaps in the future once a sort of Dragon Age "canon" has been established that might be a cool thing to consider. _________________ Zevran: "Hello my stocky little friend!" Personally I would be surprised if I ever see anything remotely related to DA, ever. It has just been way too long since this project was announced and any new information being released. I class this project as the definition for "vapor ware" or even "pipe dream", of course that is just my own oppinion which I am entitled to I suppose. Edited By Rahl Windsong on 11/01/07 16:25 |
