So this will prevent the character from growing past what he should in the bg1 part of the game, and can be later be changed to normal for the bg2 part? sounds good to have a bg1 cap, 1.8m is way too much indeed.
For the party - it will be a solo game, but I haven't yet decided on the character and Bounty Hunter and F/M/(C/T)s are the three options considered. The BH may be the coolest just as much because of his weaknesses as of his strengths - since the thieves are not good fighters, nor do they have high hp or can cast spells, the BH will have to rely on using a variety of items, potions and scrolls. The F/M/T in comparison will only lack the special traps, but will be able to do everything a fighter and a mage can. So the BH will be a much greater challenge, but given that a solo no-reload trilogy is a huge challenge on its own, I might go the easier route with the triple class. The F/M/C would be different and in a way more interesting than a F/M/T but I wasn't comfortable with changing the memorized spells often when I played bg before, so he may not be so enjoyable because of that.Edited By Lassi on 12/29/07 00:46 |

Mug Cleric/Thief - chapters 4-6...
Well, I do a bunch of minor quests in Baldur's Gate... Ramazith donates the Tome of Clear Thought (killing him in his front room, and using Sanctuary to avoid his minions), and I am trying to work up the courage to try to pickpocket the Tome of Understanding back from Jalantha. I don't think my turn undead is up to destroying helmed horrors, so I'm going to rest a little before doing some more stuff. I use backstabbery to kill the Maulers of the Underdark, the guy with the Helm of Glory, and the Ogre Magi.
The Iron Throne mercs also die to fade and fireball tactics. How nice of the AI to bunch up when they can't see their target. Then, I'm off to candlekeep and the troubles there. I don't kill the Iron Throne leaders, but still get accused of it. Why Ulraunt doesn't bother with a Detect Lie spell, I don't know.
In any case, I get the tomes (but can't identify them) and the cloak of protection +2 (giving my AC -9 as my best: Full Plate, Dex -4, Cloak of Protection +2, Large Shield +1/+4 vs. Missiles, Helm of Balduran, Koveras' Ring of Protection). Prat's group goes down to blasts from the necklace of missiles, but Prat himself gets off an improved invisibility and hides. tracking him down and finally killing him is difficult. So much for Candlekeep.
Off I go to High Hedge to identify stuff - 20 Str, 19 Wis, yeah baby - then, since I can cast chaotic commands, we'll be going for the Manual of Bodily Health and 20 CON. Ok, first group down, no problem - and the spell lasts long enough to take out the group with Sil. Now for the flesh golems... they get in just 2 hits.
Down to Durlag's Tower, then, for I desire loot. Well, honestly, I cannot finish the Isle of Werewolves without a +3 weapon. I go up and get the Tome, adn Kirinhale goes ethereal, so I just decide to leave and go back to Nashkel to Identify the tome. having made Cleric 10/Thief 12, I can do chaotic commands and true sight, which should put the kibosh on Kirinhale's tricks when I go back. OK, I went back and just drank a Potion of Magic Blocking, to assure I'd make all saves. I'll rest later.
Down to the first dungeon level, I play with friendly things, which give me bad touches, and I run back to Nashkel, where I find my constitution lets me regen just while walking back and talking with shopkeepers. Still, I rest to replenish my spells.
Now, since I've been making use of the Max HP rule, I've got 92 HP (while wearing the Helm of Balduran) and I'm still running into stuff which really hits me hard... For instance, the Skeleton Warriors. I'm using the run away, hide, come back, blast with necklace of missiles is my most effective way to deal with stuff, or, if it's got low M.R. and is alone, hit it with the wand of the Heavens, then melee a round, rinse & repeat. It really helps to get a good boost on damage/round.
I spent this afternoon trying to work out script code that would allow my character to automatically move behind something before attacking when stealthed, which isn't working the way I want it to. So I end up turning AI off entirely when I'm trying to be stealthy.
Similar headaches scripting a smart turn undead - it's worse than useless to have undead which it me only on 20s run away in fright. I destroy skeletons, and probably zombies, but Ghasts I just turn.
I keep forgetting which house the guy looking for Nester's dagger is in, up in B.G., so I've been carrying the darn thing around for ages. Otherwise, I'm pretty set, but I got bored and decided I wanted to advance the plot. |

The game has began.
Type: Bgt-weidu based (not tutu)
Rules: No reload, solo. XP cap of 161k for the bg1 part of the game, and of 8m for the bg2 part. NPCs can join for the items or for quest purposes, but cannot be used for fighting or anything outside of what is essential for the quest.
Difficulty: Core, with switching to normal for hp at level-ups and learning spells
Mods: g3 fixes bgt-weidu 5 components of g3 tweaks - Make Bags of Holding Bottomless, Unlimited Ammo Stacking, Unlimited Potion Stacking, Unlimited Scroll Stacking, Turn Off The Hideous...
Other: Containers CLUAed from the start. The other two tweaks considered were decided against.
Character: Yama True neutral Half-elf Mage/cleric Roll of 93 - S6 D18 C15 I18 W18 C18 Proficiencies - sling, sword and shield
Safety is and will be the top priority throughout the whole game. A wise characters knows that anyone can fall even to a lowly enemy with an especially lucky sequence of outcomes. |

Somebody got a brand new laptop for Christmas, to replace the one she had before that kept crashing whenever she tried to use it to play any games whatsoever. So, I started a new game. Anyone who's reading the Campfire thread, I can keep writing about my kensai until I get up to the Ch2 climactic battle with Mulahey, since that's how far I'd got. Once I've finished this run, I'm starting over again with that one. It's just I kinda fancied trying a No-Reload, just to see if I can, you know?
Mods: -EasyTutu TOB -Tutufix (BG2 Ammo stacks, BG1 Summoning spells) -BG1NPC Project -Gavin -Indira -Berserker Minsc kit -Rogue Rebalancing -BG Tweak (Breakable Non-magic Armor, Shields etc., bags of holding, exotic items pack, universal clubs, adjust evil NPC reaction rolls on joining - low rep = better) -Sword Coast Stratagems (just about every component that enhances difficulty) -XP cap remover (part of BG Tweak, but I mention it separately so it's obvious)
Reason being, I find it more realistic *not* to have a level cap, so I removed it and installed SCS to make it all harder. I'm going for a party no-reload, so I shouldn't get to a ridiculously high level. If I do, I guess I'll start over with the level cap back in position.
Character:
Sorrel Half-Elf Female, Chaotic Good Cleric/Ranger STR 18/95 DEX 16 CON 16 INT 15 WIS 16 CHA 12 War Hammer ++ Flail + Two Weapon Style +++
Here is Sorrel after Candlekeep, wearing splint mail and dual-wielding two war hammers. She survived Candlekeep. So far, that's all. I'll report back later - I've always wanted to try an R/C...

Good luck, Lassi and Furare! It does add a certain immediacy to the play, I find.
Mug only did a little:
The guardians on the first level fall to backstab/run and hide tactics. I feel so thiefish! The second level is more complex, if I recall... but there is stuff in this dungeon I will need, and I shall get it. Still trying to think of a way to take out Karoug, the Greater Wolfwere, since there are no enchanted silver blunt weapons. Or nchanted Cold Iron blunt weapons, for that matter. Unless I can work that out, I'm going to have to just ignore the whole island. The second level I do with a mixture of stealth and brute force. After I open a clear path back to the stairs, I decide to retire for a bit, since I took 50 damage from the darn crush trap as I disarmed it.
And my old Solo M/T, Lydia, decided she needed help:
I picked up Branwen, to have heals, and went about equipping her. At 91,000 exp, Branwen has 4th level spells, which means "Free Action" to avoid getting held. 7500 to get the Ring of Holiness back... sigh. So, Branwen equipped (AC 0) I head off to try to find the bandits.
On the way, I chunk Viconia with a backstab, after siding with the Flaming Fist guy who's out to get her. My automatic backstab script worked nicely. |

Furare, wow, a no-reload with Sword Coast Strategems!
I assume that includes 'mages have protective spells cast in advance' and 'darkside kobold' upgrades.
I look forward to seeing how you do in the Nashkel mines! Two 'missle-weapons' protected kobold shamans casting Sleep spells as soon as they sight you, and that after you have faced dozens of Kobold Commandos firing Flame Arrows! (This IS the spoilers board, right?)
I imagine you will hold off on the mines until your characters are higher than third or fourth level? (Sleep spells will put ALL first or second level party members out on sight.)
And Enhanced Spiders? As soon as you see any spider anywhere it casts Web, which is the same as Hold Person on everybody in range, (is that really fair?), which usually means everybody, period? I have yet to figure out a strategy to defend against THAT monstrosity, short of Freedom, which you DON'T have for most of BG1!
Good luck, and I eagerly anticipate hearing about your experiences.
PS - I've recently started a couple of no-reloads of my own, using Tutu, BGTweaks, and a four-member party limit. I've got one going with both a Skald and an Inquisitor. My Inquisitor has made it all the way through Davaeorn and starting Chapter Five without breaking a sweat, and is ready to go to Baldur's Gate for the first time. My Skald, whom I'm playing with tonight, is still back in Chapter Four (or is it Three), having killed Tranzig and holding off on the Cloakwood until doing the Cloudpeaks area and getting the Gauntlets of Dexterity for Ajantis and the 'Book of One Permanent Point of Charisma' for himself.Edited By BelgarathMTH on 01/02/08 01:20 |

After defeating several worthy foes like Basilius, a regular gibberling showed that no moster should be underestimated in a solo no-reload game... I may restart with the same character, but may play a game that will turn into minimal reload first as without knowing what many of the monsters are capable of it may be a doomed from the start attemp. |

After my recent solo fail, going for a party effort. Tutu with the NPC banterpack, no significant gameplay changes.
Character: Saffi, Female Half Elf Mage/Cleric, CN (for the cat familiar). 9/16/10/18/18/18. Haven't even left Candlekeep yet. |

Well, okay, so I started to post in here with my latest update on my no-reload four-member-party skald, and it kind of turned into a narrative, and I realized that it was better posted on Furare's 'Sword Coast Campfire' board, so please give me a read over there. I hope somebody enjoys it. |

That's gotta hurt. Sorry, Lassi. Hope you try again.
