We know a fair bit about DA by now. Not a lot, but some Biowarians have been kind enough to explain a bit of the background and the game itself. Based on what has been said by Bioware to be probable or certain-
1. What is it that you are most excited about? 2. What is it that you feel most doubtful about- either because there has been no confirmation, or you feel DA will simply not be able to pull off?
It would be nice if we could limit this discussion to what has been either confirmed, stated as probable or something being seriously considered (by a developer, designer or writer, maybe a QA Ninja) to avoid becoming a "what I'd like, what I'd not" thread.Edited By imported_beer on 06/18/07 14:42 |

Excited - it's made by Bioware and everything I heard about this game sounds very good
Doubtful - Combat, since we know very little about that, although I'm pretty sure I can live with whatever BW comes up with. |

The answer to both is the break with tradition - the attempt to try and make something better than a D&D-based game, seeking out concepts and thinking about how an ideal game should be, and to what extent it is practical to make DA resemble that ideal game.
It is exciting for its potential, but at the same time it will be difficult to really pull off well. I know it is most likely that Bioware will manage to do a good job on it with DA, but still... _________________ None are more taken in by flattery than the proud, who wish to be the first and are not. I'm just excitedd that BioWare is doning a fantasy CRPG. My only reservations are about this "darkness." _________________ "I like my women like I like my ice cream: white and cold." - the Exile to Brianna the Handmaiden after one too many shots of Juma Juice. What has me most excited is the role religion will play in this world. It adds much to lore and flavor.
What I am worried about is that the story may not provide a reason for a distinctive female NPC. I am tired of the four "models" of CRPG womenhood . However Bioware is a lot better about female NPCS than most, so I atleast can console myself with the thought that many of them will be interesting. |

I'm most excited about BioWare returning to their party-based RPG 'roots' in a new world that's their own IP; their previous own-IP RPG, Jade Empire, was very good, and it will be very interesting to see a more developed world in a party-based RPG. It also seems to be an interesting break with tradition in many ways, such as lacking traditional healing roles.
I'm most worried about the exploration/combat split and party controls. I want to be able to have full control over my party at all times when in potentially dangerous areas, so I can scout, position the party tactically etc. - not just control the protagonist 'over-the-shoulder' and then have everyone fall into formation once we enter battle. I also want to be able to select and move my party members in an Infinity Engine-like way, by comparison to a KotOR- or NWN2-like way where you take control of individual characters sequentially rather than give orders from upon high. |

That would be: Paladin (Aribeth, Mazzy, and the one in TOEE); perky thief (Imoen, Neeshka, Annah); healer (all the BG2 romanceables, Zhaeve, and Elenee), and wizard/Sorceress (Nalia, Qara), correct? _________________ "I like my women like I like my ice cream: white and cold." - the Exile to Brianna the Handmaiden after one too many shots of Juma Juice. I am confused by this, as well. I really had to think about it. Let's see...
1. spunky woman-child (Imoen, Mission) 2. haughty, self-righteous perfectionist (Jaheira, Bastila, Aribeth, Mazzy) 3. evil sexpot (Viconia, Nathyrra) 4. the wide-eyed innocent (Aerie, Mischa)
Hmm. Is that it? *ponder* _________________ Zevran: "Hello my stocky little friend!" Oghren: "Huh. You got small breasts for a gal." Zevran: "Ah. This is where we begin the typical dwarven/elven rivalry, is it?" Oghren: "Nahhh." |

Hmm. Is that it? *ponder* Nalia isn't on that list. I too can't think of a "model" for her that would get past the language filters. :)
I think both versions of Jaheira (romance and non-romance) span models. She's a strange cat to classify.
In any case, I took the comment about "models" more literally (as in "character models"). I really must not be paying attention! _________________ It can be used for... cracking walnuts, skinning rabbits... Lotsa things. |

Looking forward to find out: The plot, and how the backgrounds will acutally work.
Worried: That, I can't fully controll all party members ala BG-style but instead be forced to play it like in NWN2. Which I just dont like, Drag-select, click select issue commands kicks *** over the AI system.
I think Im a bit worried abit about how the HUD will be. I didnt like the NWN 1,2 approach very much, especially #2. I cant recall how similiar it was to NWN, if they were very alike, I suppose I increased my demands on the HUD. _________________ All in its time |

Well this is a real tough question. Im really excited about the entire game, from whats been said it sounds like its been tailor made just for me. I havent heard anything thats put me down in the slightest.
Its really hard to think of something im doubtfull about. I suppose im worried that my hopes are too high and i'll be disapointed simply because no game is perfect. Still.... perfect or not, you cant complain with the lesser "damn good" game that i believe DA will be among.
Heh, that said... ive been caught enjoying playing some considerably bad games in the past so i guess im easy to please >.> |

I thought she meant Sheryl, Mary, Cori and Gaider in a house-dress?
