Other than dragons, will there be any intelligent non-humanoids in the game? Any non-humanoid NPCs?

Too many fantasy games and stories seem to be obsessed with humanity, making every intelligent species humanoid...

Well, there's gonna be a golem, which I don't count as humanoid, but some people might.

I imagine it has to do with humans being able to easier relate with humans. The greater the difference between what we know and what is presented, the harder it is for us to believe.

I demand a race of talking chairs in DA!

Not necessarily. You could have a race of giant insects work out pretty well. Or quadropeds. It doesn't all have to be generally human-shaped bipeds...

I don't know, I'd be more inclined to kill the insectoids first and try diplomacy later. Bugs creep me out.

Are you sure the dragons are intelligent?

Maybe intelligent with animal cunning? Intelligent as in "have a civilization and the ability to communicate with other races" not so much?

Dragons are cunning to the point of having deductive reasoning, arguably even sentience, without having the ability to communicate or possess a civilization. They are like dolphins -- that will eat you.

Dolphins are actually very good at communicating, and have the intelligence of a 9 year old child.

They make good eating, then?

BUT CAN THEY BUILD CITIES???

I think it could be explained away by deductive reasoning and logic. If something starts screeching and swims off in a direction, you only really have three choices (follow, flee, or freeze). If a dragon roars and makes wild hand gestures, you get the same options, so they don't actually have to be communicating in any reasonable sense.

Dolphins are very good at communicating with each other. However, beyond "balance the ball/jump through hoop for fish" type communication, they are fairly unable to communicate with us. Many animals can communicate with each other on some rudimentary level.

But what I think DG means is that Dragons won't be propositioning adventuring parties using Fereldan Standard and demanding to be addressed using their 437 titles in the old tongue.

No, I think some dolphins were taught to communicate with humans in a very sophisticated manner as part of some experiments.

Edit: They've also been trained for under-water warfare by the Navy. Hey, can we have some dolphin commandos in DA?
