I have been a member of WoT for 3 years (some time off due to being shipped to Iraq) but after coming home and reinstalling everything I immediatley came back to the server I know and love, its hard to be replaced by anything I find myself spending hours of time in it and even habving RL conversations about what my characters did that day. The game for RPers is addicting and I highly recommend it. |

Yes, been involved with this server for over 2 years myself. I imediately fell in love with the great people on the server. I originally wanted to play in a server that waasnt based on Forgotten Realms, and I was very familiar with Robert Jordans novels (The Wheel of Time series). So it was a natural fit for me. I have since introduced many of my friends into the server as well, and they are doing great. We talk about it around the water cooler.
I had to drop out for a little while, taking care of some profesional development. And have returned, and the same great people are there. There are tons of DMs on all the time. Dont let that scare ya, they are there to make life more interesting for us. This is not a hack and slash server, though you can find that too, it is intended to be RP intensive. And with Robert Jordans world as a basis, it is an incredible and fantastic server to play on. It is imposible to NOT be hooked.

Quote: Jay Watamaniuk: How did your server come to be?
Luck Day: This is interesting. Sowens and Ox-Espatato were players on the first known Wheel of Time server, and during one of its many multi-week overhauls Sowens got bored and started playing around with the toolset.
Lmao dude, poor RobD, this interview almost makes me puke. Yeah, it was interesting indeed. I was actually there...
RobD made the original WoT PW. Sowens and Ox were banned by RobD, and for very good reason considering he was as patient as they come and almost never banned anyone, even me. So they repaid him for the fun they had gotten out of all the tireless work he put in by doing everything they could to spread lies about him and cause trouble for him.
Then they go and continue copying (seriously) his starting areas in the toolset, and using the same exact name, deliberately tricking many players into logging into the wrong server. I guess Lucky paraphrases that reality as 'got bored and tried toolset'. I even went to it by accident myself. There was a fairly convincing copy where many players were duped into thinking there characters had been lost. Here the imposters would hit people up with their spiel more seriously bagging RobD and spreading yet more lies about the poor dude, when they weren't busy doing it on Gamespy which seemed impressively frequent.
So what happened? Rob couldn't believe it, he never signed up for this incredibly nasty rubbish, and he was finally worn down and quit hosting WoT.
I'm not sure exactly what happened next so this paragraph is conjecture, but from the posts at the time it looked like Lucky effectively stole the imposters copy hosting Sowens rip-off work without his permission. Why not I thought, the whole mess was as ugly as hell by this time anyway. Sowens couldn't have said much anyway since he himself effectivly stole the design, name, and half the noobie players along with driving RobD out of the NWN community.
Actually though, Lucky was prolly in on half that trouble but I just forgot his name, given the News Announcement Lucky posted on NWN Vault. Speaking of which, why did WoT have its 1st year anniversary on the 27/8/2004 if it has according to the interview run since October 2002, a cruel month to include lmao. OMG! Even then, even in 2004, Lucky used even the Vault News to yet again further kick at RobD. Driving him to quit his PW 2 years earlier was not enough?
Here, linked. You even admit some of the actual truth there, and just lied to Jay lol.
I never said anything on the various spiels spread all over, but if this big tobacco-style smugness is going to sit in everyone's face on Bioware Wednesday people deserve to know that RobD deserves the credit for creating the concepts of that server, many foundations of it I see still exist today, for establishing the initial community that provided the numbers attracting more, and for persisting so long under that ugly, relentless and totally unwarranted assault.Edited By AU_Armageddon on 07/27/06 18:49 |

Whew! Now that's pulling a skelly out of a closet, and giving it a good shake to boot! It sounds like you were there and witnesses a lot more than Lucky and I did.
There is usually two sides to a story but since Rob had already closed up shop before we started playing on Sowens rival WoT we only got to hear one side of the story and didn't hear even a whisper to the contrary.
I'm sure by looking at the dates by our names you can tell we weren't around yet when the mud was flying and the rabbit punches were being thrown hard and fast. So, if things aren't coming across like you remember it, it's not on purpose.
The first time Lucky and I logged into WoT he had followed me into the game Sowens was hosting (there weren't any others on as I recall). We made blue gnomes and were RPing smurfs having never heard of RJ's books.
Months later when we started hearing about all the mess that had occured before, it was passed on at least to me pretty much second hand. By that time Sowens and Ox were rarely on and they were talking about moving on. I had just started as a builder submitting areas to rolks and BG to be added to the mod and Lucky was still just a player.
The Mod was down for months when Sowens shut down the server. There was no effort to steal or rip off anyone or anything. Rob's server didn't pop back up and the WoTers had no home. Lucky found out from Rolks (one of Sowen's builders) that he had an old copy in the recycle bin. I remember talking with Lucky on the phone about it outside in the yard. And he tracked down Sowens and got permission from him to revive it.
This is the first time we have ever heard another side to that story about division between Robb and Sowens. No slight or insult was intended toward Rob. The only thing that was really clear to us is that Sowens, Ox, and Rob didn't get along and they split up on unfriendly terms.
For Lucky's part and mine we have no wish to misrepresent the truth of the Module's history. We've no wish to defame people. We just liked the premise the Module was built on and we've enjoyed playing on it all these years.
To say Lucky lied is over the top. That's not his style. If what he said wasn't entirely accurate I need to remind you that we weren't there and all we had to go on was what we were told by those who WERE there. And if they gave us the wrong impression of what happened, and after 3 1/2 years no one ever spoke otherwise you can't lay blame on Lucky for retelling the tale as he was told regarding how the mod came about to be.
I think that if Rob, Sowens, Ox, Rolks, or even you were to drop in and look around that none of you would recognize much.Edited By Bear_Warrior on 07/28/06 04:00 |

Mine is a bit similar.. only that i joined the server not knowing what it was, making sme errors, and finally finding out that it was about the bookseries i was currently reading!
times like that make you feel dumb... >.< Been busy with work for 6 weeks, but will most definately pick up RP there again, as there is still alot to do for this wolfsister...

Yes, but as I remember, there were many versions of WoT, the one I know is WoT - New Era, it was started in 2002, hosted and scripted by dluan (on his notebook), and by me during a little period in mid 2003 (vault here http://www.lylver.org/wot-new-era-2003/) So multiple servers could not last together, splitting the community and Dluan said to me during summer that I could stop hosting because a new version "THE" WOT:3A has become online and prefered by the players. This is this one Lucky Day spoke about on IGN vault. |
