What if you were a penniless, escaped slave trapped in the Underdark, desperately seeking a way back outside? This is the premise behind the NWN persistent world, Escape from the Underdark, and world founder Howland answers our questions regarding his ominous setting. ~ Note: Only two weeks left for fan voting in the BioWare Writing Contest!

Thanks for the feature, I hope it will help expose us to the kind of players who will enjoy our very unique world.
One thing we do try to do as DMs is run regular "prelude quests" which essentially are optional improvised, non-scripted DM quests that explain how your character originally arrives at the town. If this is something new players would be interested in, all you need to do is coordinate a handful of other players and set a time, and usually one of the DMs is more than willing to help out with that. This can most easily be done at our forums.
I will monitor this thread too in case there are further questions, but I'm definitely looking forward to meeting some new players in-game. |

This is my first player world and it's great fun. Challenging, but the veterans are very helpful with the new players.
Great role-playing, and very fast helpful DMs in game.

I'm currently playing Escape from the Underdark myself. So far I'm enjoying every inch of it. The world changes a lot, and players pull some great Player Factions out of the ground, and are usually happy to involve everyone interested. As well, there's special events from time to time, in which everyone is free to participate.
When I was about to join EfU, I had the "HotU" lay-out in my head, a grim, boring place, but I just felt like trying it. - Since the moment I joined I was amazed about everything, it wasn't half as dull as expected, and yet completely different from any other RP server I've ever seen. I'm now playing for quite a while, and however challeging, it's awesome.
Well, I hope you guys will enjoy it as much as I am.

And we be needing more dwarves in town, so if ye be a dwarf, ye'll be welcomed by yer kin with open arms. We stick together we do....
There be a big need for dwarf scouts as well. Them that like nature and them that know how to use the shadows too, as long as ye don't cut the purses of yer kinsman.
=
If ye be a dwarf magic tosser {shudder} ye be a wierd sort, but we'll take ye in gladly too.
Hmmmmm, most of us anyway..... = |

I discovered Escape from the Underdark (EfU) 2 weeks ago, and I've enjoyed my visit quite a bit. In EfU, I found a combination of mature playerbase, balanced and enjoyable gameplay, creative content, and game mechanic incentives rewarding player interaction, which make it very unique. Of course, I've always been a fan of dark stories , but my predisposition doesn't change the fact that this is a quality act, put together by some talented individuals. Nice work Howland et all. (: |
