While perhaps Freedom Force is a great game, I can't help feeling sad that Bioware has decided to monetize its user community by offering third parties the opportunity to advertise via its mailing list. Yes, I know Bioware is a business, but I am disappointed nonetheless. |

I played the first Freedom Force and loved it. I just picked up the second one today and have been paying through the first few missions. It's as good as the first if not better. If Bioware wants to enter into agreements with quality developers such as Irrational, then let them. _________________ The Sunken Cemetery (Remake for NWN2) |

I'd intended to buy it anyway, liked the first game.
I don't know whether this is crass spamming of an address list... or legitimately something newsworthy... an actual relationship between the two that leads to new games that wouldn't have otherwise have been produced...
I figure time will tell...

If only I had Windows around right now, I'd be probably playing Freedom Force - a really interesting and funny game. I'm not particularly into superhero comics, but somehow this thing managed to inspire...
Yep, should definitely check the this game. Especially considering it's not an Electronic Arts title like the previous one. Just Vivendi, which is big and evil, but not Evil(r) _________________ - Weyfour WWWWolf "Thou art a thief and a scoundrel. Thou may not ever become an Avatar!" Create NWN stuff in Blender! |

This particular official message does feel a little odd to me. Is this simple advertising? Will Bioware be partnering with Irrational in the future? Such interesting times we live in. |

I think this is the beginning of one of the best trends in PC Gaming, and it may be the start of what saves it. My reasons are as follows: The development of PC games have recently been swallowed up by these big publishers that care only about the bottom line. Years ago when you bought an A list PC game, you got alot. Big, detailed manuals, reference cards, maps, etc. with alot of money spent on polish. Now console gaming is taking off and is alot cheaper for publishers. The big companies like EA, Vivendi, and Atari seem to view PC games as a sideshow. Next to nothing is spent on the contents of the box and, unless Q&A is done by the developer, the publisher just ships it without support. It used to be you could get a patch fairly quick, now you are lucky if you can get a patch at all, unless the developer does it, and some small developers just don't have the funds to do it. So what has happened is that some of the small developers that are independedly solvent, Bioware, Valve, id, Blizzard, are getting enough clout to change how publishers rip them off. Irrational is a great, small developer, but without the clout. I think it is awesome that Bioware is helping them out and hopefully it will change how PC games are made. You can just see the incredible talent in the new Freedom Force game. It is the only game that has been able to pull me away from my current World of Warcraft addiction. I have hoped that Bioware will eventually have enough resources to become a publisher themselves, and I hope this is a step in that direction. Be very happy that this has happened, listen to Bioware, and go buy the new Freedom Force game. |

I'm really excited by this promotional partnership. Hopefully, this will mean more sales for Freedom Force and thus more of the kinds of games I like to play. Both Irrational and BioWare create the types of games I love, and I think if they combine their talents in some future games it would be awesome! |

I think the article is probably right that Bioware and Irrational have many of the same fans. Neverwinter Vault and Freedom Reborn are the only two mod sites that I still check regularly, having given up on anything good ever being done for Morrowind, and I'm surprised by this time that there isn't more available for Doom3 and Half-life2. Maybe modern game engines are just too intricate to belt out quickie fun levels? When I think back to all the fun material that was produced for the original Doom, Duke Nukem 3-D, and Half-life, I have to wonder if those days were truly the golden age of modding. With the new Freedom Force game it will be interesting to see if any new activity is generated by modders (please, no more X-men meshes!) but since Marvel's legal dept is so aggressive about their character's likenesses being portrayed online, the Freedom Force sequel might be the worst thing to happen to Freedom Reborn if the heightened attention results in it being shut down. |

great point man. i couldnt have said it better. developers need to help suppurt other developers. like 2 bands touring together and giving shout-outs to eachother and thank yous in the liner notes. it seems to be healthy grass roots type movement, and the game industry does need some independence from big money publishers so the integrity doesent get sucked from the hands of the creators... _________________ Get me A beer slave... |

I have never played Freedom Force before but heard it was a good game. Freedom Force vs. The 3rd Reich also looks like a good game. And I agree with BaronVH, that this could be a very good thing for PC gamers if these two companies work together. The better companies (Bioware, Blizzard, Valve, ect.) need to help each other. _________________ Idiots argue, Smart people debate. |

I also agree that it is a good thing. I loved the first FF and know I will like this one. It's already getting good reviews. Hopefully that will continue. _________________ I may not know everything but I know Hardware. |

The next step is for Irrational to set up a live team making smaller FF adventures for BioWare to sell through their store.
