Exploring a persistent world with friends is a favourite way fans play NWN multiplayer. The ground-breaking program, Neverwinter Nights Extender (NWNX), addresses the community's desire for a true persistent world--it ensures character actions are permanently remembered. NWNX was recently updated, and we spoke with Papillon about the latest version, NWNX2.

Congrats to primary developers Papillion and Jeroen. Also much thanks to PlasmaJohn, Tenkawa and all the folks who have contributed to this fantastic product. I've said it before and I'll say it again, NWNX was *the hook* that brought this gamer back to NWN and keeps me playing after all these years. I'm terribly excited to see what the future holds and look forward to more great things from the NWNX development team.
I'd also like to give Bioware my sincere gratitude for recognizing NWNX this way. Thanks guys!!
Respectfully,

All with the intent to keep the game going! If people can play text muds after almost 15 years, they can surely play a graphical game with aging graphics and engine, because it blows text away. No? _________________ The Confederation of Planes & Planets: Go anywhere. Do Anything.

Right, and money is always an issue. So if people can play a great roleplaying game online, and avoid paying a monthly fee or upgrading their pc to make up for the changing graphics then it will always be around. |

All hail NWNX folks! Personally, I have a lot of respect to give to people who push games to do amazing things. NWNX does things pretty well, even though they're pretty difficult in theory. Impressive *and* useful - what a combination.
And I didn't even know about the Profiler. Might be useful for the mod I'm working on, but I suppose it will still be pretty slow if I found out why it's slow. After all, I'm doing things I *know* are pretty slow to achieve
Oh, and I hope Avlis will soon get to 1.65 too... _________________ - Weyfour WWWWolf "Thou art a thief and a scoundrel. Thou may not ever become an Avatar!" Create NWN stuff in Blender! |

A big thanks to the APS crew! NWNX blew me away when I discovered it a while back. Because of it I dug into and learned a lot about SQL and database design that I wouldn't have otherwise and it has enabled us to do so much that just isn't conceivable any other way.
Again thanks, thank you very much. _________________ http://www.nepentheonline.com

Btw, I am looking for someone with some time to help us with a database project. It's not directly Avlis-related, but you may indeed get to rub elbows with the likes of Papillon, Jeroen, and PlasmaJohn if you work at it long enough.

Ok, and here's the big announcement, from Papillon on nwnx.org!
Quote: I am very happy to announce an exciting new feature and a premiere for Neverwinter Nights SQL Database connectivity.
Based on Earandel's research and demonstration module, the newest ODBC2 module offers what we have been waiting for: object storage with NWNX2 ! Finally the last domain where ODBC connectivity was lacking compared to the Bioware database has been significantly improved.
What is currently available for download (nwnx_odbc2-scorco_089.zip) is an alpha release, based on Jeroen's combined mysql and odbc module. The package includes the plugin and an updated aps_demo NWN module that demonstrates the new features.
Requirements: 1) MySQL database server. ODBC supports object storage as well, but you might need to tweak the create table statements in aps_demo. 2) NWNX Version 2.5.4 (important! it will not work with earlier version)
Installation: 1) Install NWNX 2.5.4 if you do not have it already 2) Put the plugin (nwnx_odbc.dll) into your NWN directory 3) Choose your connection method and copy the corresponding .ini file into your NWN directory. 4) Rename the .ini file to nwnx_odbc.ini and edit the connection parameters
Note: Since this is an alpha release, the API for object storage might still change a little. The complete functionality is there, though, and in my (limited) tests the module proved to be stable. The module has been tested with 1.64 and 1.65.

I have a question about installing and setting up NWNX. I went to Setting up NWNX2 with MySQL on Windows using the MySQL plugin
http://nwnx.org/index.php?id=tut2
and ran into a couple of problems. One, the tutorial says;
There is no nwnx_mysql.txt. There's a nwnx_mysql.cpp, but no .txt. So, I assumed that there was a typo in the tutorial and modified the .cpp file by adding the four lines at the top of the file, after the includes. Of course, adding ";" after each line.
The second problem I have encountered - a show stopper, so there might be more that I haven't come across yet - was with this instruction;
View Post/Code in separate window
When I try to execute the fourth bullet, Type> cd c:\\mysql\\bin, I get a path not found error; the folder mysql does not exist at the root. Now, I could search for it, but since it is not where the tutorial specifies it should be, I figure I've done something wrong at an earlier stage.

um.... This entire article talks about how you should go to nwnx.org for help with questions like this. Did you happen to catch that part? I bet you'll get responses over there if you post it.
Good luck. |
