Craving more adventure after Hordes of the Underdark? Play the three entries of the NWVault's HotU contest where the goal was to create the best module that continues the story from the Hordes of the Underdark expansion. Congratulations goes to Sands of Fate 1 - Shadows under Heliopolis by John McA for winning the contest. Why don't you download all three modules and decide for yourself!

Has anyone played these? What's the scoop?

I've only played Sands of Fate and Gods Themselves, and they were both surprisingly good for modules developed over a short period. If you want a full adventure, Sands is probably the best one. Gods Themselves is more challenging and epic, but it's also only one hour long. I still have to play the third one, but will probably get around to it some day.

I've played The Gods Themselves, and I also really enjoyed it. Especially because I have an evil Rogue/Assassin/Shadowdancer.

My only problem was that it was so short. Just when I though it was getting started, it was over. I'm REALLY hoping that it continues on...

Has anyone played Shadows Over Heliopolis? I'm stuck in the Cursed Ones caverns. My character is not a thief so I can't open every chest or door. It's quite annoying. If anyone has any advice it would be most appreciated.

Aw, man! I just finished HotU over Memorial Day & was hoping to make my own expansion as a way to learn the new tool. I didn't realize there was a contest & that it was over & people won.

How about we have another contest to expand past the Post HotU contest? Call it Post Post HotU Contest?

Later,
John

Later,
John

Personaly I was hoping for a CEP contest. I realize there are CEP modules out now and that CEP is already well recieved, but a contest would be fun. I enjoyed playing the mods for both the pre-HotU contest and teh post-HotU contest.

Ditto. Except I've got enough Rogue to cover the Open/Disable checks (both 60+). I'm stuck in the Great Hall (past the really big beetle), there's a specific key somewhere that I can't find but it's not in any chest/behind any door that I've already seen. I've tried looking for secret doors everywhere that seems likely (search 49) to no avail and I'm beginning to wonder if this isn't some sort of bug (badumboom). Other than that I'm reduced to wandering around in the hope of stumbling across something shiny.

If anyone knows where this key is I'm close to breaking point so please let on. I can't go on I tell you, we're trapped, Trapped, on the other hand I like what they've done with the floors; that red splatter effect is quite...oh, that was me wasn't it?

Possible spoilers below

As regards advice I'm assuming you're held up at the same point as I am in which case I don't think there's anything I can tell you. For what it's worth a Greater Basilisk will use its gaze weapon when you're out of range if you position yourself well and by my count each one can only use that attack eight times before it closes for melee. It occurs to me now that the petrified cursed one might be carrying something but how would non spellcasters be able to retrieve it? You can rest and re-learn in safety in the patrol leaders hut btw.

Hurrah! I just found a secret door! I was mistaken about my Search, I had to use items to bump it to 46 from 39 (must do something about that) but if you look long and hard enough - there it is. I don't know if this is the whole answer but it's a new development. I'll post telling you where if you don't want to earn that 'eureka' moment for yourself.
