Shrieking horrors sporting razor sharp nails, and capable of dropping from the sky like a falcon to tear hapless adventurers to shreds, the Harpy has been released to fan sites this week! As an added bonus, RPG Vault has posted 3 new Feats.

Do the Epic Spell Focus and Superior Initiative feats stack with their lesser versions. _________________ Reality is fake. Life is a lie. Screw the world. Lets all die. |

This is such a stupid question but here goes....What exactly is initiative and how does it impact on NWN? My understanding is basically the higher your intiative the earlier you can attack. But I think that applies for a turn based combat system (eg. TOEE). I used to take improved intiative for my sorc and fighters in NWN but never noticed a difference.
Any help is appreciated. |

Initiative is used when combat begins. For exmaple if you have a fighter and an orc starting combat ("Excuse me do you know what time it is?", "Screw you Orc bastard!") each rolls initiative on a 20 sided dice (d20). Some things that effect that roll:
Dex: the higher your Dex the more is added to you initiative roll. For exmaple if I have a Dex of 10 I get no bonus but if my Dex is 12 I get to add +1 to that dice roll.
Improved Initiative feat: this adds +4 to that roll.
In our example our fighter has 10 Dex (no bonus) but has the Improved Initiative feat (+4 bonus) which gives him a bonus of +4 to his roll. Lets say he rolled a 7 on the d20. 7+4 gives him an initiative for the entire combat of 11.
The orc has 14 Dex say and so has a bonus of +2 to his initiative roll but no special feat to help him. He rolls a 14. So 14+2 gives him an initiative for the entire combat of 16 and allows the orc to go first (16 is bigger than 11).
So a combat would look like this:
Orc goes first with 16 initiative and the Fighter goes with his 11 initiative.
If they continue the fight for another round the Orc goes first again and the fighter second.
That first initiative roll is very important in special cases where say a Rogue will get to use his Sneak Attack ability if he beats your intiative roll at the start even if you are not surprised by his attack.
If you have other gameplay questions I would suggest one of the general forums where the game rule kung-fu is very strong. Edited By Jay Watamaniuk on 10/16/03 15:24 |

All these details are on the fan sites. Like...say...the Ladies of Neverwinter Hordes of the Underdark Feature page.

if theyre gunna make a new class i REALY want them to add a class called Deathrider, Heh if they could they can allow the character to ride a horse that weilds a greatsword, heavy armor, helm, all in black if possible, and has 2 bonus feats if human. That would be just plain SWEET man, just cant wait for it... Well actualy i cant wait for Unreal Tournament 2004, BUT im both First person shooter and RPG fan. im not finding any use with the shifter though. And about the harpy, make it so that she can actualy fly all the way up in the sky to flee once hurt!!! if management is reading this. i want the game a little more challenging. Unlike the hard stuff i went through jsut taking halfling monk through the whole game with no henchmen, now that was just plain fun/hardish/frustrating... |

A level 3 shifter can morph into a harpy and it would be just a TINY bit unfair on the other classes if they could fly away. |
