Greetings all!

I'll get right to the questions; who are the writers for Dragon Age? How many are there of you and have you hired some outside help? Are the design team and writer team the same team, or two seperate teams? Also, the people that are working on Dragon Age are they the same people that worked on, say, Baldur's Gate, Knights of the Old Republic and Neverwinter Nights? I think I saw somewhere that David Gaider created the character Carth in Knights of the Old Republic.

Thanks in advance, keep up the good work BioWare!

Sincerely,

David "WinterJedi" Andersson

I am the lead writer for Dragon Age, and there are currently two others (including Dan Whiteside, who worked with me on the NWN expansions). More will likely come on as they are freed up from other projects. And, no... unlike other development houses, having full-time writers means we don't need to contract writing out.

Quote: Are the design team and writer team the same team, or two seperate teams?

The Design department includes both the writers (who also do level design) as well as the technical designers (the people who do the scripting and level implementation).

I've had a hand in the writing for a lot of our games though my primary credits are for BG2, Throne of Bhaal, KotOR and the NWN expansions. And, yes, I wrote Carth.

Dan has written for NWN (he created Linu, for one thing) and the expansions.

The third writer is new. I don't know who else will come on board, yet, though.

New writers don't get names? Do they get names in the Bioware offices? Does everyone just say "Hey, you!" to refer to them?

Maybe it's time to write the "Free the newbie writers from the Evil Gaider" NWN module. Hmmmm....

No, they have names. I'm just not certain as to their status or if they even know which projects they've been assigned to yet, or if they're even on the current project long-term, so I don't want to go blabbing anything I shouldn't.

Ahh....but naturally, David fails to give any credit or mention of his "secret" minions that he has performing all the menial tasks which he refuses to dirty his hands with.......

Some of us know about your Flying Butt Monkeys, David!

What menial tasks? You mean assassinating smart-mouthed forum posters?

Whoops. I guess my secret is out.

For some reason when I read the name of this thread, I thought it would be a suggestion for a calendar with the same title. You know, something like "Men of the Long Tom Grange Calendar".

If that would come to pass, I might have to tear out my eyes and run screaming from the room. Unless it were for a good cause, and then I'd buy a copy . . . for the children, of course.

The writers on our team are extremely talented. You all know David Gaider is a genius, and the work I've seen from the new people (who are still remaining nameless for policy sake) is nothing shy of stellar.

On the design side, you've got talent drawn from several previous titles, if I recall correctly. Personally, I'm the "fresh" talent. *cough*MeaningI'mTheFreshMeat*cough*

Thanks for the replies! Linu was one of the few characters I actually liked in the NWN games, and I*m very happy to see that Gaider has merits like Knights of the Old Republic and Baldur's Gate 2 behind him. Can't wait for Dragon Age.

Dave is Bio's resident genius-wizard, and I am confident DA will be a roleplayer's feast with him at the lead. Still, I am just curious, is there anybody from the Torment team still working for Bio? That game is one of the milestones that you can never forget if you played it once...

Unlikely, considering they never did. Torment was made by the late Black Isle, the employees of which are now mostly scattered between Obsidian and Troika, I think. Don't know if Bioware hired anyone, but I doubt it.

what is that policy btw? they afraid to come to the boards? or are you just not letting them, for fear that a gang of desperate bio fanboys will stage a drive-by kidnapping on the new hires and torture them for info about DA? i hear you've lost several staff that way, in fact.

how would i hear that their staff had been kidnapped?

you hear these things on the international criminal underground. you might not know it, but they actually have kidnappers conventions where they meet & give awards to the guys who got the biggest ransom. it's amazing what they give awards for these days.
