First be sure to view the previous version of the Multiplayer Topic (still stickied) before posting. As before, feel free to post everything from questions about how to get multiplayer working properly in BG2 to requesting other people to come join your game (or you to join theirs).
Enjoy! _________________ Well there ain't no point in moving on until you've got somewhere to go... |

I want to start a multiplayer game to make 6 characters and than make it a singleplayer game. I've done this before and than it worked. But for some reason the buttons of IPX and tcp/ip are grey and can't be used. Also, when I try to do a serial game, when I press start game nothing happens. No matter whether I only have bg2 SOA installed or all kinds of add ons and custom packs it just doesn't work. I don't have any firewall on while trying it. Does anyone have an idea how I could solve this problem? I would really really appreciate it . |

Help me!
Heres the problem:
1. I started a tcp/ip game with my friend in australia - the first time we played it worked just fine no problems at all
2. The next time we try to play lo and behold, its giving me the "cannot connect to game session" crap. Why would it suddenly change? my buddy says that he has not installed any new computer protecting software, so i am kinda lost.
Help! |

I just reinstalled this game and put it on a new computer as well.
I have a lan and am attempting to set up a lan game.
I don't understand the port connections changes in the README file. Where to I change those settings?
Are those settings the same for IWD2? Because I uninstalled that game since I was unable to get it to work over my lan.
Thanks, Cyn _________________ EVIL is just a mirror image of LIVE . . . |

Hi Canman!
Yes, we are using TCP/IP to try the log in. Apparently I can go on the net and log in fine.
I just can't get the second computer to recognize the LAN. I am having the same problems with IWD2 and NWN.
I am thinking it has something to do with ports being blocked, but I am not sure how to enable the ports. Actually, I am not sure where you go in WinXP to enable. (I had to completely reformat the old hard drive and I had all the info on that computer.)
If anyone can tell me where to look for this info, it would be most appreciated. _________________ EVIL is just a mirror image of LIVE . . .Edited By Cynarra on 01/01/05 00:48 |

Kevin Lynch can probably help you with the ports problem. Suggest sending him a PM. He is good at these type problems and will either solve your problem or send you in the right direction. _________________ BS is the lubricant of human relations.

Ack! Opening ports (which are listed in the readme.txt file) should be done via your firewall, but since I don't use multiplayer, I've never had to worry about opening ports. Usually, you can just tell a firewall to allow a specific program full access (on any port it uses). You might just try enabling/disabling the firewall to test access that way, since it'll immediately tell you if that is the problem. If you have a third-party firewall installed, check the info with it to find out how to work with it. If it's the Windows firewall that you want to find, you can look in Control Panel->Security Center for more info (in WinXP SP2). Otherwise, look for the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF). _________________ Well there ain't no point in moving on until you've got somewhere to go... |

Aww its not really addicting is it? I have a room open in GameSpy and also have several multi games going without it. Send me a PM and I will give you my IP address or we can exchange them and play a bit. |

BG2 differs from NWN in that there are no actual servers. The easiest way to play with a friend is to use TCP/IP protocol and exchange IP addresses. That way either of you can be Host and get several games going using different characters. To export, just hit export on your character and type the name at the top. The next time you import, the exported character will be available. Good hunting. |

Hello all. Lately I've been trying to get a BG2 game running with a friend of mine, we're using TCP/IP. It once worked, but we don't know what changed since the last try. We've tried running direct TCP/IP, Gamespy and Allseeing Eye. None enables us to connect to each other. Windows XP firewalls are off, we both have the exact same patches and no mods, I doubt our framerates are different but I will check this. I have attempted to open the required ports in my router's firewall and Norton firewall. It doesn't help at all. I have made a screenshot of my current router firewall settings, perhaps this will clarify it. If we both disable our software firewalls it has no effect either. I can neither join nor host a game. I'm thinking the problem is my router's firewall (my buddy has none) so please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
