I got y hands on this robe recently from a woman selling some wares in the corner at the adventurers mart after i returned from bringing down thax the shadow Dragon. This has to be by far the best robe i have encountered within the entire game. Note only does the AC and rock on it <no real bonus but sets ur bas at 5 so in short, i have a wildmage with a natural -8 ac...hehe>, but it grants +4 spell speed <in other words when u cast spells it is alittle under par to the spell speed of Jon Irenecus, however with the smaulet of power added your as fast . If that isnt good enough for you it has some other stats <spell resistance and so forth> and looks pretty cool. so for all of you who mages who have been trotting aorund in your robe of the Good/Neutral/Evil Archmagi wondering why you get smacked around like a little boy in a catholic school and have the fortitude of a toy chiwhuahua will reconsider the defensive capabilities of a mage once u adorn this kickass robe . So for those mages/wildmages, who wonder why their entire group is in amazing armor and whimper when u look down at the after-bath garment you wear can have some releife in knowing that you have something to look forward to! |

But the Robes of the Archmagi have a hood! What do you say to that? |

I agree, the hood is cool. The robe of vecna is beardy , and is used as an excuse to give cruddy mages some real power. Give me a sword any day ! |

theres a mod out there that sets the style of robe of vecna to the arch magi one. Colours and powers stay the same _________________ Fall to the almighty Four! Why does the appearance of the robe matter? AC 5 + 10% MR + -4 bonus to cating time = screw appearance, I'll take this robe. |

The robe of Vecna is evil... it turned my character into a spoon, and then 405 Beholders used me to eat the rest of my party when they were done slaughtering them Oh wait, that was a dream, sorry _________________ Be doubly careful. Hm, yes the robe is indeed good. But I still prefer the Elven amour you get around the end of SoA and that gives you (after upgrading it in ToB) protection against normal weapons. Of course this is less useful in ToB than in SoA but still. Besides it has a nice AC bonus and looks nice enough on my character. And seeing as how she’s a dualclassed fighter/mage it makes sense to wear it.
Besides I’ve only recently gained access to the robe of Vecna, before that I was limited to the good robe and I always gladly changed that for the Elven chain. But I have to agree that the robe of vecna doesn’t look as nice as the good alignment robe.

But you become immune to normal weapons in Hell, so Aslyfrund(?) isn't that great for the main char. _________________ Cordy: "People really do change." Angel: "Yes, they do. And sometimes, they change back." |

What if you were stuck with the male human Cleric avatar (multi-classed Cleric/Mages)? Would you still take it then? I had to take it off, it felt like my eyes were being raped.
Also, how you guys can stand that Protection From Evil and glowy Asylf..whatever armor is beyond me. |

I just changed Aerie to look like a Male Human Cleric, and all it did was change the color of some parts of her outfit. Inconsequential if you ask me. |

When the non-mage human avatars wear robes, its as if they are wearing nothing at all - except that heinous tunic and no pants! :Vomit: (ps I know that there is no vomit emoticon - you'll just have to visualise it). Scyles is absolutely right.
Because Aerie is multiclassed, the game must 'realise' that she has a mage class and therefore can display the robe on her avatar. This is not the case with dual class characters.Edited By Very_Big Sword on 07/07/04 08:02 |

Very_Big Sword is right about that, it doesn't look pretty. But it's not as bad as it was in BG1, that was just terrible.
Hm, perhaps that is one of the reasons why I like that chain so much, apart from it being stronger than the good alignment robe. It makes my dual classed fighter/mage look as if she's actually wearing something nice. The only thing that the robes do is change the colour of her boots and such.
Oh well, she still is great.
