After reading someone's (Rataxes for those who know him) report about his solo cleric through Weimer land and ascension I decided that the challange was set to try the same thing with a blade. Some might think it is easier, I think it will be harder, due to the lack of high level spells, except casted from scrolls, but only time will tell. Anyway, here goes nothing.
First off, the blade is a bard kit for those who didn't know. It basically is a normal bard with the exception that it get's to use offensive spin and defensive spin once every four levels. Offensive spin grants me an extra attack per round and ensures that all attacks made will do maximum damage for the next 24 seconds. Defensive spin grants an AC bonus of 1 per level, to a maximum of 10. I never played a bard before, so it is all new for me.
Secondly, I have a couple of mods installed in this game. The ascension mod has all parts installed, the tactics mod all parts except for improved Yllich and the improved mind flayers (god, I hate them), the item upgrade, the unfinished bussines mod, the oversight mod and Dundee's improved thieves in the beginning dungeon.
Thirthly, I will not use (or at least as long as possible the following items): Cloak of cheese (reflection) Shield of balduran Carsomyr (Use any Item) Shield of reflection. The list might grow as I find more items, but this are the items thus far. I will not use them unless I see no other way of finishing the fights. I will also try to limit the use of cheese to a minimum. I cannot escape using it, because the tactics mod is loaded with cheese and for a solo blade I think it might be hard to bypass that cheese without using some form of cheese myself. Only time will tell.
After some rerolling I rolled a nice score of 89 which was led to these scores: Strenght 17 Dexterity 18 Constitution 16 Intelligence 13 Wisdom 10 Charisma 15 The character was named Lenwe Telrunya, profiency's 1 in katana and 3 in two weapon style, difficulty was on core rules (easy for max HP rolls when creating char). Game began, Jon started torturing her, but nothing she couldn't handle, the thief exploded and Imoen freed me. After she removed the healing potions from the painting I told her to bugger off and I was on my way.
Freed Jaheira and Minsc for the exp, told them to find their own way out and, armed with a chain mail, shield and katana, I took on the lighting memphit. This was a good time to test out the offensive spin ability and after activating it, the memphit was quickly dealed with. Same for the ogre mage that followed although I did have to use my two healing spells (special abilities) after that. The goblins in the passage to the otuygh we're easily defeated and by casting my one horror spell (special ability) on the group of goblins standing the other way, they could be meleed as well.
The memphit in the golem room was defeated by using my second offensive spin and the goblins on the way the activation stone we're meleed one or two at a time. I released Reliek and by activating the golem I got my first level. That ment one more offensive spin, which was what I needed to defeat the memphit in the opposite room to get the shortbow. My first fault became clear as one of the three profiency's in the dualwield style should have gone in shortbows, but nothing could be done now.
Armed with the bow, I went back to pick up a quarterstaff to defeat the otyugh. I could hit him, but he couldn't hit me. I had to roll a 15 however to hit him and with the way that the IE rolls, it took a while to kill him. Got him eventually though: http://home.planet.nl/~wijng353/otyugh.JPG
Went on to the nymphs, killing the goblins with the bow on the way. Took along the helm of balduran (which I couldn't use for now) and used a healing potion to repair the damage that the trap did when grabbing it. I decided this was the time for my free rest, the next rest would main I get encountered by a bunch of thieves (Dundee's mod). Memorized find familiar, chromatic orb, magic missile, invisibility, mirror image and 2x melf's minute meteors. Armed with one set of meteors and my new familair I took out the memphit in the library, the goblins we're no match for the bow. Next up Yllich.
Luring them out on at a time the duergars and Yllich we're easily defeated, the mage was taken care off with meteors. Went into the plain of air, casted my invisibility spell, retrieved the scroll of summon air elemental after killing the memphit guarding it and it helped me clear out the plain: http://home.planet.nl/~wijng353/airs.JPG
Freed the Djinni, got the sword, closed all doors behind me to stop the two golems, retrieved the portal key, casted slow posion to stop the posion, drank a healing potion to heal the trap damage and on my way to the second level.
Got there, send Yoshi on his way and rested for the second time. This ment the thieves encountered me but luckily I had my invisibility spell memorized (twice now). Casted it, walked into the room with the memphit portals, closed the door behind me and walked to the exit door. Casted melf's minute meteors, took out the upper two portals (one at a time), casted my second meteors and took out the bottom two: http://home.planet.nl/~wijng353/melfs.JPG
Took the keys in this room, casted my second invisibility spell and moved along leaving everything behind. A mirror image protected me from the trap and by walking close to the pedestals I could bypass any traps from which I didn't get the key. Had the vampire kill the assassins since they carry +2 weapons with Dundee's mod that I could sell and 2 very usefull invis potions. Picked the items and got the hell out of the dungeon.
That's it for now, will report again some time tomorrow I guess. |

Part 2, just a bit of playing before studying for the exams.
After escaping from the prison I commandered Cernd's house as my stronghold and dropped all my stuff that I couldn't use for now in there. First up, Circus tent. Walked in there, answered the riddle, got my level. Walked in, killed the first peasent with the 4 meteors I still had left and 2 arrows, the second one required a bit more hit&run tactics and went down after 38 arrows. Rested.
When I woke up, I casted my invisibility spell and went up one floor and then to the top floor. Kalah speaks and I move all the way down, so only Kalah, Quale and one werewolf could see me. Casted meteor's and killed Kalah. Retrieved the items, including the priceless stoneskin scroll, learned that, sold the rest and travelled to the slums, but not before relieving Ribald of his ring.
Talked to Gealen, went to his friend upstairs, relieved him of three potions of master thievery, drank two and stole 80 +2 arrows, 2 +1 katana's, 80 acid arrows and 2 potions of speed. Moved back to the adventurer's mart, stole every usefull scroll in there, same with the merchant above the den of the seven vales (or something like that). Included were 5 wraith from scrolls that would make me immune to normal weapons. Armed with those I decided to take on the improved Copper coronet.
Gained entrance and started killing the first guards in melee with my new scolls: http://home.planet.nl/~bohne033/wraith.JPG
The mages we're defeated with the help of the bow and +2 arrows when they casted protection from normal missiles. After I killed them all I went on. Bow'd the winter wolf to death and killed the mutated gibberlings, the panther and the grizzly bear: http://home.planet.nl/~bohne033/bear.JPG
Made tabitha follow me and one defensive spin later, she was death. Melf's minute meteors with katana+1 in the offhand combined with offensive spin and a mirror image seemed a good way to kill the beastmaster, however that led to me having 3/2 APR, so I decided to not use the offensive spin and he went down rather easy. The minotaur and the black bear fell to the rest of meteors (one recasting), the rest of the guards was taken down the same way as before. After that came the tedious task of selling all the armors etc. but I did got a nice 10177 gold after that, meaning that after killin the slavers I will have enough to pay off the thieves: http://home.planet.nl/~bohne033/lenwe.JPG
Next up, finding a knock scroll to open the front door to the slavers, removing them from the city and retrieving Lilarcor after that. First up, studying though.Edited By andijvieschotel on 03/31/04 11:09 |

Time for part three (assuming anyone even reads this of course).
Seeying as how Hendak wanted the slavers removed I could not refuse of course. Going through the sewers could be risky so I decided to scan the surroundings first (after getting a knock scroll from lady Yuth at the adventurer's mart and selling her a scroll of sphere of chaos). I asked the guard if I could look inside and he turned hostile. Killed him, used the knock scroll (got the cowled wizards warning) and got inside. First guards we're easily dispatched, need a scroll of summon invisible stalker to get rid of the two mage's and their melee partners. The traps was avoided by casting slow poison special ability after. The priest of Cyric and his 4 melee partners fell to my meteor's, one ran away scared, would be back for him later. When the priest went down, I got my level.
A Djinni helped me defeat the captain, I freed the children and with the help of the invisibility spell I let the trolls remain we're they were, to starve to a slow and painfull death. On the way back the posion trap hit me again for a good 48 damage, but the ring would heal me overtime.
Next up lilarcor. The first troup of hobgoblins can be annoying because of the habit to cast hold person, I felt confidend meeleing them anyway. I got killed in 4 rounds, hmm, new tactic. A symbol death and meeleing the survivors seemed more like it, and so I used my powerload:reload spell and casted the spell: http://home.planet.nl/~bohne033/death.JPG So much for meeleing. I let the otyugh and the slimes were they were, they could only follow me to were the ring was and then the otyugh would block the passage that was too small for him. Kobolds we're no match for the bow and the carrion for to one magic missile. Thus, lilarcor was retrieved which helped me kill the otuygh without getting hit. The slimes were nowhere to be found so I moved on.
Sold everything not usefull, got over 20K and paid off the thieves. Went to Aran and also joined Mea'vars guild. Rested so it would be night and travelled to Mook. Lilarcor protected me from his annoying domination spell and offensive spin with the two katana's killed the vampire. Moved out of the area, get the renfeld encounter and took him along. Stole the necklace of Talos and get the quest experience for both Mook and the necklace. Returned Renfeld and got my next level up, which ment one level 5 spell, I selected sunfire. Talked to xzar, accepted his quest.
Xzar house (the people you have to kill to get entrance to the harper stronghold) is improved by the unfinished bussiness mod, so instead of the three goblins, there is one flesh golem and two ghasts who have the annoying habit of holding you when they hit. Decided I need a rest before this fight. After the rest went into Valygars house, casted invisibility and mirror image (here the cowled wizards will allow me to do it) and moved to the house. Moved all the way down to the bottom left corner where you can just stay out of the sight of the two mages, thus not getting aimed by their confusion spell. Pulled out the good old Tuigan bow, aimed at a ghast once and all three monsters attacked. Had to make my save against the spooks the ghasts sometimes cast (improved undead) but that worked on my second try. When they we're all three in range a sunfire made short work of one ghast and left the other at near death. Offensive spin, recasting of the stoneskin when it expired and the golem and the other ghast were death as well. Mages fell to some meteors. Returned, retrieved Montaron, Xzar got killed and I got his bracers of def AC6 and some stuff to sell.
Finnally, the unfinished bussiness mod will "finish" the circus tent a bit more by giving you a lamp that Kalah used to make his wishes. The original owner of this lamp was traced to the gate district were I also joined a lovely couple together despite what their parents might think. Bought the word to activate the lamp from the original owner and used the last wish to restore Kalah to live to give him a second chance.
Next up, probably the second Aran quest and I'll pay a visit to the bridge district as well, I heared some murders have been commited there.Edited By andijvieschotel on 03/31/04 21:16 |

Time to post part 4, anyone still reading this (question or remarks or anything can be made in this thread, no need to send private messages). There will be no screenshots in this post since my brother isn't home to upload them and I have no idea how to do it, might post them later on.
After exactly 3D and 12 hours of playing (it was the middle of the afternoon, meaning that Jonnie starts torturing you in the middle of the night, rather strange time if you ask me, but anyway) I visited the bridge district for the first time. Heard about the murders and found the murderer in no time. This is a very very good quest for a solo character seeying as how you get 68250 experience total for just one character. After that I decided to take on Caehan and Jaylos. Both we're easilt defeated with some hit&run tactics and some meteors I still had left from killing the mages in Xzars house. The guild contact is a bit stronger but fell to 2 magic missiles, 1 chromatic orb, a melfs acid arrow, some meteors and finnally meeleing with the defensive spin on. Collected the quest experience from Aran.
Sold everything not usefull and had enough money to buy one wand. Decided on the wand of fire seeying as how that as 100 charges, instead of the 50 on the lighting and cloudkill wand. One thing I learned thus far was that hit&run tactics are hard to coordinate when fighting several characters. I really should get boots of speed. Thus, I decided to obtain my stronghold, free Hear'Dalis but most importantly, get those boots.
Got the quest, went to sewers and saw the awesome precasting that Gauis (improved mages, tactics mod) did and decided to save them for later. The first goblins in the center fell to the bow, the rakshasa was a diffirent story however. Pretty much immune to all my magic, an AC of -9 and 3.5 APR made this a formidable foe. Had to use 18 meteors, a potion of speed and casting of Draw Upon Holy Might (DUHM) to make hit&run tactics work. Finished the goblins after that and obtained his powerfull cloak. Moved on, casted my invisibility spell and entered Mekrath' house.
Talked to him, meleed the memphits to death after that and took the scrolls from his bookcase. Learned the contingency scroll and the scroll of spell deflection and gained a level learning them. Moved on to the imp, who isn't that hard (especially not with my potion od speed still active) except for the earth elemental she summons (which my katana's could not hit) and the band of kobolds that felt like interrupting. Killed, and ran away from the earth elemental, leaving it to wander forever in the sewers (untill I return that is). Freed Hear'Dalis (also obtained the wand of ressurection [YEAH!!] and a wand of cloudkill with 6 charges), obtained his gem by using my two invisibility potions to get past the Greater Yaunti, 3 Yaunti mages and 2 normal Yaunti's. Magic resistance (amulet of poweer) helped me escape the charm trap. Also obtained the harp, which I discarded immediatly as not usable untill I released I was a bard. Held on to it.
With the second invisibility potion still active (I don't see why the first one got removed just for picking up some stuff from an altar, why does that make me visible??) I ran back to Hear'Dalis, leaving Sansuki standing in the bridge district for his encounter. Rested, memorized one choas spell instead of sunfire, sold everything and went down to return the gem. Helped defeat the beasties (I killed the quasits, while Hear'Dalis took the blows from fire elemental and the shadow fiend, almost dying). They got taken, I casted invisibility (had 2 memorized now) and followed.
The first troup is hard to beat, so I had to think of something. When I go in invisible none will notice and you can walk out of all sight by walking up a bit (I have a screenshot of where exactly, but as said, can't post it). Casted meteors there and moved so that only one bounty hunter (the archer) could see. Attacked her once and casted confusion on her after that. 3 bounty hunters got confused, one attacked Aawill who slayed that bounty hunter and one walked up to me and got slain by my meteors. Rested and repeated the tactic. Thirth bounty hunter (the one with the boots of speed) got slain and I killed the rest with the meteor, the Yaun-ti proving to be the most difficult, since the very good spell selection the tactics mod gives them and their cheesy pre-casting. Went down eventually though and I got my boots of speed.
The next two fighters and mage we're no match for my new speed and the bow, next up was a troup of one greater Yuan-ti, 2 normal Yaun-ti's, 3 Yaun-ti mages and a thrall. Precasting gave them all protection from fire so using my wand of fire would be useless. However, since the skeletons Yaun-ti's summons are normal, they can never exceed level 15. Protection from fire has a duration of 3 rounds+1 round per level, meaning that after 102 second it should wear off. Waited that long, casted fireball in their direction, but they we're still immune, strange, annoying, but I had to find a way around it. Used a scroll to summon a skeleton and lured the melee Yaunti's out. The fell to the bow and 2 offensive spins.
After that I started summoning from scroll, strarting with two skeletons that fell quickly. The air elemental lasted longer and absorbed a good deal of their spells. The earth elemental after that obtained even more spells untill they we're casting magic missiles untill he finnally fell as well. They also summoned a bunch of skeletons. Melee'd the skeletons to death by luring them out, absorbed the magic missiles and used the bow to kill the mages, which was time and arrow abosrbing, since they recast all their stoneskins. Left me with 53 arrows, not that much.
The next mage fell to 3 fireballs from the wand, while mirror image protected me from her chain lighting. The fighter fell to the bow and my new improved speed (and I obtained her guantlets that got my THAC0 down by one). Rested after that.
The Wyvern fell to some meteors, the master proved a diffirent problem though. First took out the two air elementals, by casting agannazar's scorcher from the wand 4 times and running away. The master however, either held me or meleed me to death with his 4 APR. He also is rather immune to both fire and posion damage, ruling out both my wand of fire and of cloudkill. Decided to use a scroll of symbol stun, stunned him on the first try and after that he fell to some meteors. Obtained the wand of air, very usefull and the orb. Recasted meteor's, freed everyone by destroying the orb, ran back fast and the warden fell to my meteors before he killed all of the people I freed, this never targetting me. I planned to use my invisibility spell to get past the group of Yuan-ti's, seeying as how I didn't have enough arrows, nor summon scrolls to take on another group, but they we're nowhere to be found. Freed Hear'Dalis and partners, got a level from the quest experience (level 15 now, gained my second level 5 slots which I used te memorize summon skeleton, since that will give me a skeleton warrior now, changed the first one back to sunfire). Also obtained my stronghold.
Next up, I will need to find a way to defeat the improved Guarded Compound and obtain the celestial fury. Will prove rather insane though, that fight has been improved to its limits. When I obtain the katana I will also have to kill Kurosian, the acid kensai, who comes looking for it. I need those katana's though, so I will try it. It that doesn't work, I will start doing some more quests. |

As promised, the screenshot about my hiding place in the planar prison.
http://home.planet.nl/~bohne033/planarprison.JPG
You enter near the bottom (I assume everyone knows this place, but just mentioning it anyway). The green dot is me, your favourite hero, the red dots are supposed to be the enemies, I think there are 5 on the right side. Hope this makes the story a bit more clear about how I defeated them. |

Part 5 already. First up, something I forgot in the last post, me finding the melodic chain mail, which granted me a nice AC bonus to -3 (although it couldn't be combined with the ring of protection +2).
As promised I would go hunting for the celestial fury. Before doing that however I decided I needed some invisibility potions, and the easiest to get them was to defeat improved Mea'var. That said, I had to kill Rayic the mage first, not an easy task seeying as how he is guarded by a bunch of memphits, two golems and is a decent mage himself as well. You do know I would go and try anyway of course. Rested, made sure I had a cone of cold memorized instead of the sunfire and was on my way, but not after selling my stuff to the merchant in the bridge district.
Precasted invisibility and mirror image in the Sea's bounty tavern and went to the house. Casted cone of cold to kill three fire (or magma) memphits, killed the rest with meteors. Used invisibility to get past the golems, appologized to Rayic for entering, summoned a skeleton warrior and attacked him with the meteors. I actually managed to disrupt his protection from magical weapons casting, thus he was easily slain. Luring the golems up one at a time they we're slain by the skeleton warrior as well. Made sure to take along the scroll of mislead, but didn't learn it.
Returned to Edwin, did the other two quests and the time came to asassinate improved Mea'var. For those who never played improved Mea'var, he is improved in the following ways: level of entering contains more thieves who use potions of invisibility to back stab you. Mea'var's leather armor has been removed so he can cast spells, he and the thieves and the cleric get prebuffed by pretty much all known spells in Fearun and the thieves use 5 potions of invisibility each to backstab the hell out of you. Rather hard, as you can imagine, if not for one mistake. None of them has the ability to detect invisible characters.
The entrance level was easy. Whenever I saw a thief, I used the wand of fire with the scorcher ability and they we're defeated easily. Next up, Mea'var. I thought I had a full proof strategy. Cast protection from posion from scroll, move down, cast mislead, walk up there and use the 6 charges from the wand of cloudkill to kill them. The problem was that my scroll of protection from posion didn't seem to protect me, I got hit just the same (why, anyone??, the resistance to posion also wasn't showing on the character sheet, the spell symbol was there, but not the line that says: posion res 100%). Needed 5 healing potions and 5 charges to kill them all, except the skeletons who are immune but they we're meele'd. Got some nice items to sell, a stone with +1 to AC (very, useufell, since I can't helmets untill I get the UIA) and plenty of invis potions. Armed with those I got my quest experience (lvl up) and went to get the celestial fury. First though I made a ring of preservation (item upgrade mod; ingredients: ring of protection+2, ring of regeneration, diamond, 20k gold; this can be combined with the armor, giving me, combined with the ion stone, an AC of -6).
Rested and made sure I memorized 2 skeleton warriors, 2 invisibility spells, 1 protection from evil, all stoneskins for level 4 and all meteors for level 3. Also casted stoneskin and meteor before resting, since they last more than 8 hours. Went in the house, spawned the demon trap, had the glabrezu take out everyone, then casted protection from evil and took him out.
Lay-out of the fight: http://home.planet.nl/~bohne033/mapcele.JPG Edited with my limited paint skills to make the fights more clear. Remember this fight is improved so much that it will be insanly hard, the mage can cast 2 timestops, they all are loaded with potions of healing and the thief with invisibility potions as well. Pre-buffing of them is insane, everyone has several protection spells and spells that improve their melee skills, you can't run back down the stairs, to lure them one at a time, triggering Koshi, means that the rest will follow, they will pre-summon 4 skeleton warriors (with the improved undead mod, formidable foes) and have excellent AI. Found a way around it of course, otherwise I wouldn't be posting . Participating we're: Me, Lenwe Telrunya, everyone's favourite bard; Sion, the mage with two timestop spells; two minotaur warriors with 10.000 healing potions (are so it seems), one of them named Maferan (who came up with that??); Koshi, the main man, wielder of the celestial fury; Stalman, a cleric of decent level; finnally, and deffinatly least, Ketta, the thief. All of those enemies are probably of higher or equal level to me.
Walked up invisible and immediatly fled into room 1 (see map). Only Ketta (the thief) will follow and true sight will be cast. She backstabs, stoneskin protects and I use scorcher from the wand of fire to hit her. She goes invisible, backstab, repeat. This repeated, sometimes she drank of potion of healing, thus remaining visible long enough to target her twice. When she got to badly injured she ran away scared and fell easily, still leaving behind 7 invis. potions. One down. Quicksaved.
The rest of the fights is loaded with me dying, retrying tactics (took me long enough to finnally win it) but I won't bother you with that, instead just tell the winning tactic.
With Ketta down, the easiest foe had hallen. Next up, I sat my time out untill both magical swords we're unsummoned, draw out the bears who fell to the bow. After that the two winter wolves we're unsummoned as well. Lured out one skeleton warrior, killed him with offensive spin, repeated that process with the second warrior. Next up came a tricky part. Attacking Sion, led to everyone attacking me, yet I had to remove Stalman the cleric from the other two skeletion warriors to kill them. Summoned a skeleton warrior, lured Koshi and one of the minotaur warriors to room 1 (map), used an invis potion, ran to room 2 (map) while they all moved towards sion, leaving the two skeleton warriors alone. The first one fell to meteors, the second one to offensive spin.
Now I could lure Maferan away from Sion and Stalman towards 3 (map), he went down after battling me and my second skeleton warrior, I used offensive spin and melf's minute meteors as well, he used all of his zillion healing potions. Stalman and Sion we're easy targets after that for the skeletion warrior who I had walking up and down untill they released all their spells. Stalman ended casting sanctuary, sion mislead. Both with limited duration. Stalman revealed himself first and fell quickly to the bow and the skeleton warrior. Sion shows himself next and his next spell will be improved invisibility, which lasts like forever, and I had no means of dispelling it. Used an acid arrow to pierce his stoneskin and luckily enough his casting failed. Went down quickly after that.
Lured out Koshi and the second minotaur warrior from 1 towards the middle were the skeletion warrior still was standing. They are scripted so that they will ignore summons and concentrate for you. I just ran in circles around my skeleton warrior while they stood next to him, too slow to ever decendly target me and move away, thus got killed slowly. When both we're death I was the prouw owner of the celestial fury. http://home.planet.nl/~bohne033/lenwe1.JPG
Next up, buying the crossbow of searing (if I can use it), to defeat Kuroshian. Anyone who knows where to buy that crossbow, plz tell me, because I have no idea. I'm hoping that it is suffienctly cheaper than firetooth. After that... I wouldn't know right now, suggestions are welcome (assuming you all read this and want to help....).Edited By andijvieschotel on 04/01/04 16:42 |

Part 6 is up and it promises to be a thriller, exciting.... Anyway, it is rather short since I had the first exams today, had to watch Top Gear and the soccer match and do some homework. The Kuroishan fight is also in it and that was rather hard to win (thus time consuming).
Started with selling the leftovers from the celestial fury (only the armors, didn't feel like walking back and forth a zillion times). Went to my stronghold (cernd's house), dumped of a lot of stuff, finnally identified adjatha the drinker, went to the adventurer's mart and noticed that Ribald was the owner of the crossbow of Searing, the item I searched. Before buying anything however I decided to slaughter Mencar and co. in the den of the seven vales. Using Tenser's transformation led to me having 216 hitpoints and using the harp three times (causes confusion with save vs. spell) led to everyone being confusied except for Pooky and Amon. Mencar killed Amon, I killed Pooky and the dude with the cursed sword and Mencar after that. The thief (as always) fled. Sold their stuff to Ribald.
Sold Lilarcor, since adjatha could be used one-handed and bought two scrolls of protection from magic and the girdle of hill giant strenght. No crossbow because I released that my THAC0 would stink with it and Kuroishan has an nice AC bonus vs missiles so it would be futile trying to hit him with my THACO. Thought of a new strategy that used mislead and I realized the merchant in trademeet sold that scroll. Thus I travelled there.
Upon arriving in Trademeet, Kuroishan spawned. I drank a potion of invisibility and waited till he fled, promising to return, I would be ready for him then. Accepted both quests (Genie and Druid quest) and completed them without a problem, using the wand of fire as my main fire source to kill the trolls. Left the troll nest and the guardians alone for later however. Cernd helped me defeat Faldorn and I returned.
Kuro spawned again and this time I tried to defeat him. Succeeded in the end, though not after a lot of trial and error and the use of my most powerfull baalspawn ability, powerword:reload. The strategy that finnally worked, participating: once again, Me (surprise, surprise), Lenwe Telrunya, the bard of ever growing fame in the forgotten realms; Kuroishan (here after lovely named Kuro or he or him or ....), a level 13 kensai/level 14 mage, with insane items and prebuffs, check him out some time if you don't know him. He once again has one real weakness (but only one, serious, this dude slashes through a level 40 figher I think), he can't dispel invisibility.
I entered, he spawned, I drank invis potion. Went into the tent of the genie's, returned the head, casted invis, went back out again. Ran to the house of the high merchant, talked to the women, she made sure the merchants we're active again. Drank potion of invis, ran to the merchant and bought 3 mislead scrolls. Learned two. Next up I casted two protection from acid scrolls, to protect me from the unlimited supply of melf's acid arrows his sword casts whenever you hit him. Went back out again, he attacked, but before he reached me, I casted mislead and my second invisibility spell on that clone. That means I could attack him for as long as the clone was there. When the clone was dispelled I could repeat the tactice one more time. Unfortunatly that wasn't enough to last out his protection from magical weapons scrolls and as soon as I became visible he totally slashed me to ruins.
Remembering something Userunfriendly once wrote, he is weakly protected to normal weapons. I didn't have any, the merchant didn't sell any, but Wallace, the merchant outside near the bottom of the town has two axes (as everyone knows of course). New tactic. Cast the two scrolls of protection from acid, drink a potion of speed. Double speed (potion and boots) run over there, buy the two axes, run back (seeying as how his deathfog would otherwise kill innocent people). Cast the mislead spell and invisibility on the clone. He arrives, I use tenser's transformation, equip the two axes and start attacking. He could hurt me in no way whatsoever and when the clone got unsommened, I ran away and used my second scroll to get a new clone. I couldn't turn that one invisible (tensers will stop you from casting mage spells), but he didn't attack it anyway, as long as it stayed out of his sight. Went back and started slashing again with the two axes, 3 ARP (potion of speed) and tenser's, untill he finnally was slain. His Katana was mine. I also gained a level.

Part 7.
With the new katana (sanchuuduko) my melee powers improved a lot. First of I decided to do the trademeet crypt. Killed the summoning skeleton warrior with meteors, meleed the rest. Failed my save vs. a hold person at some point but the acidic backslash saved me. Gave the item to the high merchant of course, to recieve that reputation point.
After that I returned to the bard stronghold, where, after a lot of talking, I left again leaving behind 10.000 gold for a play to be produced. I also picked the new actrice and not the ***y (edit: ok, I didn't know that was counted as a abusive word, excuse me, it was a word that ment something like arrogant, over-confident) famous one, since I didn't like her. Decided to kill Falahar, which was easy. Also took on captain Dennis and I had to use an invisibility spell at some time in the battle to give me some breathing time (read:time to regenerate). Got a level when killing Dennis.
Sold all the stuff and bought the robe of vecna, which would be usefull when I gained the UIA. Travelled to the goverment district, freed Viconia, talked to Delon and rescued Jan, accepting him in the party for the insane 11500 exp... Got the valygar quest, travelled to the docks, talked to Hervo, learned about Suna Seni and went upstairs to kill the fighter/illusionist. He wasn't there and when checking the tactics mod I got an error when reinstalling him. So much for killing him. Travelled to Suna Seni, learned about Valygar's location and went to the Umar hills.
Heard about the problems, talked to the mayor, then to Madulf and solved their dispute. Talked to Daar, then to Jermien, found the mimics blood (meleed the mimic and the 2 umber hulks), returned, killed the golem and got the experience and Ilbratha. Talked to Jeb, learned about the chicken and bought it for the fair price of 100 gold. Took along Valygar, entered the planar sphere and dumped him again.
The clay golem died of my added acid damage and the memphit was easily meleed. Talked to Reyna of the knight of solamnia and killed the sahuagin for the trouble they will cause me later. The halflings warriors we're meleed and later on I meleed Togan, a halfling warrior and a skeleton warrior at the same time. Felt rather good about the melee abilities now. A skeleton warrior, my best friend against mages, helped me with Mogadish and Kayardi: http://home.planet.nl/~bohne033/skele.JPG Together killed Entu, Taibela and the fire elementals after that.
The skeleton warrior took down one stone golem in melee. I used meteors to take down the adamantite golem, he having only one attack per round against my 5, making it almost impossible for him to kill me faster than I would kill me. Used one healing potion though. The stone golem fell to the rest of the meteors and two blows from the celestial fury. Revived the guardian golem, made my save vs. the trap and made sure I had the last blow when killing the elder orb. Lavok was killed with the help of a skeleton warrior, that absorbed his strongest spells before it fell to a magical sword. When that was unsummoned I melee'd Lavok untill the evil force was removed. Went back and down to Tolgerias.
Casted fireshield and tenser's after that and went in. The mage was melee'd to death when his protection from magical weapons we're finished and I got a level after that. I (ab)used the fog of war to make sure that Tolgerias used up all his protection from magical weapons and killed him with meteors and acidic backslashes.
Had to quite after that to eat and will go studying again tonight. I will finish the planar sphere the next time and after that it might be time to go do some dragon hunting in the umar hills, though I'm not to sure about that.Edited By andijvieschotel on 04/04/04 16:24 |

Thanks, glad to hear someone is reading this.
Part 8 (right?)
After Tolgerias died I cleared the ice room, first killing the winter wolf with the meteors I still had left, after that I meleed the snow troll. Went in there, killed the second snow troll in melee, while the memphits died of the acidic backslashes thrown their way after they casted the icebolts. The mountain bear was meleed when all the rest had already died.
The fire room was opened and the greater fire elemental attacked immediatly. Meleed him to death, ran in there, grabbed the staff of fire and used it to get a fireshield thus protecting me from fire damage. Meleed the efreeti, the memphits and the hell hounds (courtesy of the unfinished bussines mod) died because of acidic backslashes although I did have to melee the two hell hounds as well. Needed two healing potions in this fight.
Went outside to get a demon heard. The imps, quasits and salamanders we're no match in a melee fight. The easiest Tanar'ri demon (the one to the right) fell to a protection from evil (these demons can see through that) and one offensive spin. Lea'liyl, the second demon summons 3 Maurezhi, but they all fell after two offensive spins. The second Tanar'ri summons a bunch of fire memphits, imps and quasist, but with some planning they can all be taken out before attacking the tanar'ri itself. Did so and the Tanar'ri fell while I used defensive spin, seeying as how he can hold you with every melee attack.
Went back, entered one demon heart in the power core (there were no golems to be found, strange) and got a level (level 21 already). Meleed the clay golem (which was there) to get the treasure in the top right corner. Returned to Lavok, carried him outside, got the quest experience and the ring.
Sold some items and bought Azuredge from Bernard, since it is almost impossible to steal from him with my 105 pickpocket score. Travelled to the temple district and while travelling there I got an encounter. Not the first of course and not worth mentioning if not for the fact that these bandits did absolutly nothing. I could melee them and they just stood there. Felt that this was a bit lame, I just let them standing there.
Went to the sewers beneath the temple district and decided to tackle Tarnor and his party. Approached them from below and fled again after the dialogue. Summoned an air elemental and a fire elemental from the staves and they lured out Draug Fea. After the elementals were slain he attacked me and I killed him. Tossed a fireball between Tarnor and his party and they attacked me. Stood just around the corner, the two clerics got near me as well as Tarnor. The mage was standing a bit further away as well as the archer. Activited defensive spin, killed the two clerics in melee, disrupting their spells each time they started casting. Needed a second defensive spin. Made my save vs. the spell the mage cast and acidic backslashes finished him off when he started attacking with melfs minute meteors. Same with the archer and Tarnor was meleed.
Solved the problem of roger the merchant by slaying the sea troll and sold all the items from Tarnor & co. to him. Bought Vhailor's helm from that gold, for when I get the UIA.
Visited the graveyard after that, Wellyn and the parentless child were not there at this time but I did save Tirdir from the grae. Sethle directed me to the bridge district and Am-Si was slain by his two companions, Camatis and Reti. I killed them in melee and freed Lady Elgea after that.
Next up I decided to take on the D'arnise hold, thus I travelled there. Upon arriving, I rested, making sure I had three misled spells memorized. Talked to Nalia, found the secret door and forced the locked door open. Couldn't save the guy from the troll, but got my revenge by slaying him. Talked to Daleson and located all the secret doors to obtain the ring of earth control, pushing my AC down to -7.
The middle room was probably filled with three spirit trolls, two umber hulks and 2 giant trolls, at least that was what my pre-knowledge told me. My bard however didn't know that, but decided to cast a misled spell and scout that area. He killed the 2 umber hulks and 2 giant trolls, while they never even realized what hit them. Next up, he moved back, casted a second misled, went in there again and summoned a fire elemental from the staff which got attacked by 2 spirit trolls. Meleed them as well, while they never even targetted me. Moved in my image, which got attacked by the thirth spirit trolls and while the troll was attacking the image I took him down from behind.
That's it for now, next time I will finish the keep and do the dragon hunting in the umar hills after that if I can't think of something easier.Edited By andijvieschotel on 04/05/04 17:03 |

Part 9 this time.
After I killed all the trolls in the room in the middle my image got unsummoned and I was on my own again. Tried to save the servant but failed, killed the troll after that though. Went outside, fought the otyugh, which managed to score the insane rolls of 19,20,20,19 in a row. Killed him after that though, mainly because of the acidic backslashes that got delivered to him after this insane rolls. Serves him well I guess. Gained a level after killing him. Had to kill Rex, Rover, Sparky and Spot because they we're going all crazy over me killing the otyugh and used them to create some food.
Went to lower the gate, encountered a spirit troll which was slain in melee. Lowered the gate, went down again and helped defeat the greater Yaun-ti and the trolls, both outside as inside. Went up an took the door next to the stairs. Killed a spirit troll in melee, killed the exploding trolls with the help of the wand of fire, scorcher ability. The Yuan-ti mage was slain in melee, or by me stepping back, having him hit me with meteors and returning the favour with melf's acid arrows, the acidic backslashes. He confused me at some time, but since he kept throwing meteors and a lighting spells I killed him with the acidic backslashes.
Killed two more spirit trolls in melee and freed lady Delcia Caan after that. Went back to the beginning again, following the top way this time, encountering three spirit trolls, which were defeated in melee. Though they could only hit me on a roll of 19 or 20, the last spirit troll found no problem draining my strenght down to 14, meaning that I had to use an offensive spin to kill him. I liked these opponents, they could be meleed yet delivered 12.000 exp.
Found all the secret doors, killed another spirit troll (which gave me his exp twice, once one following down and once again when permanently killing him, strange, but it justifies the strange bandints encounters I got which costed me some exp, so I didn't feel like opening shadowkeeper to change it back again). Forced the door to Glaicas, used the ring of human influence and after a while I could talk to him, explaining what happened. He gave me one of the three flail heads. Went to the stairs down and entered the golem room. Used the ring of earth control to charm the iron golem, which helped me kill 4 golems before turning neutral again. Picked up the items, the iron golem and the remaining clay golem turned hostile. The iron golem was defeated using meteors, since he was already at badly injured, it was rather easy. He did manage to strip my stoneskins away before dying, so I recasted. The clay golem was meleed.
Went down a level, summoned 3 skeleton warriors and they helped me kill 2 spirit trolls and 1 spectral troll. Lured out three umber hulks that killed off the skeleton warrion but were slain in the same time. Used my sunfire against the other two and meleed them after that. Entered the food in the proper spot and got the exp even without the umber hulks that were supposed to be drawn.
Rested and made sure I memorized: 2 protection from magical weapons, 4 skeleton warriors, 1 haste and 1 tensers. The rest of the spells was memorized as always. Torgal is improved in the way that his melee properties have risen and that he is surrounded by a bunch of (elder) umber hulks, spirit trolls and spectral trolls. Woke up, summoned 4 skeleton warriors, casted haste, mirror image, invisibility, lured out only Torgal, ran back, casted protection from magical weapons and tensers after that. Meleed Torgal: http://home.planet.nl/~bohne033/torgal.JPG After that me and the 4 skeleton warriors went in there and actually killed all of the trolls etc. Three skeleton warriors managed to survive. Somewhere in the fight I got my level and obtained my first HLA, I picked the Use Any Item ability. Created the flail of ages, returned to Nalia, accepted her in the party to save her from a life in the keep and dumped her after that.
Thus far: Lenwe Telrunya, level 24 blade. One HLA: Use Any Item ability (obtained recently, equipment will still have to be adjusted). 124 HP -7 AC Equipment: Weapon: Celestial fury +3. Offhand: Sanchuudoku +4. Armor: Melodic chain +3. Hands: Gauntlets of weapon skill. Head: Dusty rose ioun stone. Amulet: Amulet of power. Rings: Ring of earth control; ring of preservation +2. Girdle: Girdle of hill giant strenght. Boots: Boots of speed. Cloak: Cloak of the sewers.
Spells memorized normally: Level 1: 3x magic missile, 2x chromatic orb Level 2: 2x invisibility, 2x mirror image, 1x resist fear Level 3: 3x melf's minute meteors, 2x remove magic Level 4: 3x stoneskin, 1x fireshield Level 5: 3x summon undead, 1x sunfire Level 6: 1x tenser's transformation, 1x protection from magical weapons, 1x mislead |

Not a real update since it is really short but I will probably forget it otherwise, I call it part 9.5
Since I gained the UAI I could sell a few items no longer usefull: Adjatha (the shield of harmony is superior to it), flame tongue (kept it to kill trolls, but sanchuudoku can do the same), dusty rose Ioun stone (could wear the helm of balduran) en I sold the elven court bow, since I plan on using a certain shortbow. Also rearranged the items in my winter wolf pack a bit (it can containt 10 items).
After that Meck approached me told me to return to the bard stronghold. Decided to expand Iltheia's role a bit, hoping that I took the right decision.
Next up I decided to take on the lich in the docks (tactics mod) to get my hands on the cloak of balduran, that raised your magic res by 25% as well as giving you the AC bonus. Did it the cheesy way. Entered the thieves hold, precasted resist fear, entered the lich fight and threw the axe of azuredge her way. She died before her melee protection spells ever came up. Drank a potion of invisibility after that. Switched the weapons back to my normal configuration, casted meteors and simularicum from Vhailor's helm after that. The simularicum casted stoneskin and used defensive spin to take the blows, while I used meteors to take down the 4 skeleton warriors and 1 bone golem.
Travelled to the gate district, heard about the sad story of Wellyn, totally slashed Llynis to ruins (child murder really pisses me off) in the Copper Coronet and returned the bear to Wellyn,
Using DUHM I got 25 strenght, enough to open the door to the lich in the gate district, killed that with azuredge as well and killed the earth elemental he summons after that and gained a level. Picked spike trap as my HLA and was of to watch arsenal-chelsea. |

Yes, I'm not soo much afraid of Kangaxx, nor the two liches you have to defeat to get his body parts. The improved Kangaxx fight however features a fight before kangaxx with two liches, two very good fighters, one with an axe that can kill you instantly. However, I think that I might be able to kill them while typing this, so it is deffinatly worth trying. Will probably play later tonight, so will let it know in the next update. |
