hi there lol first for once
Chris, on the latest rumor/fact/mental breakdown/whatever,
Was there any word as to if it was caught on tape? \The main reason I ask is at E3 almost everything is recorded...a tape/video might clear stuff up.Edited By pirateandhisboat on 07/18/08 14:30 |

I will post this again in the new thread.
There have recently been rumors about the BioWare MMO. Once again, these are just rumors and we do not comment on rumors.

I think an MMORPG could work on consoles if there was support for usb or wi'fi keyboards and mouse for the 360/PS3. |

Ah HAH, Chris I don't want you to comment on the rumor... not at all.
Do you know if said 'rumor' (that I am not asking you to comment on)was caught on tape at E3?
<I sound like Jack Sparrow>
no need to say if it is right or wrong or whatever.
Do you know if it was caught on tape?

You honestly think that a big scale mmo with the level of future development that is required can run without adverts or monthly subscription? I suppose they can always just plant more money trees. That should do it.
Quote: Posted 07/18/08 14:26 (GMT) by the_one as for the grinding. how do you remove grinding from an MMO? is there going to be a "crafting" system? how do you remove grinding from that? ive seen "improvements" made on this stuff in recent games. but improvements are not enough. improved grinding is still grinding. the only way to really eliminate it is to eliminate the advancement system altogether. getting xp for kills and leveling up equates to grinding, no matter how much you try and make improvements on it.
Warhammer has removed grinding from crafting. Its not impossible, you just need to think about it more. Grinding is when repetition becomes boring and not fun. People happily went hunting all day in SWG killing the same creature. It wasnt grinding because it was fun, and thats the key.
The eliminate grinding you need to give people ways to progress by doing the things they find fun. Dont require them to do something they dont want to do and support a good selection of playstyles. If you enjoy doing something its not a grind, so give people varied fun ways to level up and progress in the game. Again, its not impossible to eliminate grinding, you just have to think about it. _________________ Thortac Balcor The Lost Ranger |

an elaboration
how can you craft without grinding easy enuff
You train up in the crafting skill you want go and get materials make the stuff you want to
easy breezy
skip all the spend 2 hours learning to make a bolt....nobody buys then 10 hours learning to make a nut.....nobody buys
instead go to school (trainer) to learn how to make speeders then make them |

Chris, honest question; How can you call it a rumor when the president of your parent company is the one who said YES it is?
Did he lie?

......The second thing was that I didn't want it to be grindy. We've done grindy before. Dark Age of Camelot's system was less grindy than some of the games that went before it, but it still required lots of making of lots of items most of which also didn't sell for a lot. We did have various ways of selling it within the game so it would help your side's war effort. I didn't want either of those. So I looked at our systems, I looked at other systems, I looked at ideas I had and I came up with something that I think is kind of cool!
To start with, it isn't a recipe-based system. It's an experimentation system where you find ingredients and you make ingredients. You get to experiment with all different types of ingredients to make other things.
So to get rid of the grind you take out the grind parts. Its as simple as that. You still have progression in the system but you've taken out the need to spam craft on rubbish items sapping all the money out of you in order to reach the next stage.
There are other ways to eliminate the grind too. _________________ Thortac Balcor The Lost Ranger |

Once again, we do not comment on rumors, so as you can expect, neither I nor anyone else will be commenting. Sorry.

Whilst id love to see whether its a confirmation or not, Chris really has his hands tied. The article could be wrong but it wont be for him to say unless he's authorised to do so. It could be correct but again he would need to be authorised to do so.
Its pointless us pestering for confirmation from Chris and Stan. Sure they can pass the message on that people want to know whether its true or not but i dont think its up to them to confirm or deny it.
If there ever is confirmation of its authenticity i expect it to come from the BioWare press office rather than the forums. _________________ Thortac Balcor The Lost Ranger |

I'm sorry I did not read all the Threads. So please excuse me if this was already discussed.
But what I'm most concerned about is the "Jedi" Topic.
In a single player game this is no problem for me.
But in an MMO this is going to be a BIIIGGG issue!
By design Jedis are overpowered, this should be balanced by there small numbers.
But how to do this in an mmo.
Option 1. No playable Jedis at all.
I would like this... but the mainstream? I think it would discourage some potential players.
Option 2. Only force-sensitive Classes for players.
This would solve all the balance issues with non force characters. But it would also be pretty boring.
Option 3. Make it REALLY Hard to becomme a forceuser.
The problem here is, that it does not matter how hard you make it. Players will find a way to get there.
One solution that comes to my mind is, that player can choose to becomme a force sensetive Char at the start.
Then they have to find a master (Player) to train them. This master can only have one trainee (padawan) at the same time.
The Problem here is, that this could be abused (Pay me x$ and I will be your master).
Option 4. Force slots cost extra.
I can already here you screaming! I would too.
Option 5.
Set the game during a time where the Jedi are hunted (Sith wars?) and if you are force sensitive you have to choose, join the sith or have an automatic bounty on your head in public.
That all the Options I can think of right now.
What do you think? Are there others (I'm sure I missed some)? What do you think Bioware should do? |
