Quote: Pachter brought up an interesting point when he stated that EA didn't drop $300M on BioWare only to let the studio keep working on Xbox 360 titles.
They sure didn't. They paid over $860 million.
Sorry folks, this is just another rumor at this stage. Could BioWare make Mass Effect for the PS3 (or the PC, or some other platform) in the future? Yes we could, but we are not working on a PS3 version currently.
I don't know who Mr Pachter is. Maybe he's a PS3 owner who wants to play Mass Effect.

Hey, while you're here, I have a few questions - maybe you can't answer it for legal reasons, but I'm curious...
Didn't Microsoft have some sort of an agreement for exclusive rights to the Mass Effect francise? Did EA 'buy' these rights when they purchased Bioware? What exactly happened to make Mass Effect available to other platforms? Or was that ALWAYS a possibility even before the EA purchase? |

Of course Chris or any other developer can not answer questions about legal issues. I don't see the point in even asking. _________________ Just say NO to UCW |

Could go either way for anybody. Only time can tell.
Yup.
Personally, I'm with the crowd that wants two or three viable platform competitors in the gaming market. It encourages them to stay sharp.
In theory. If all of them get all dull and fuzzy headed...well.... |

Kotaku has it now...
Pachter: Mass Effect Will Come to PS3
Mass Effect is Xbox 360 exclusive? Nope, not anymore (though technically, still yes). Analyst Michael Pachter has spoken. And when he speaks, mountains move and plans change.
"Trust me, Electronic Arts, when they threw out the 300 million [for Bioware and Pandemic]—that is multiplatform—that is not 360 only...It has to [come to PS3], I wouldn't be shocked if Mass Effect 1 came to PlayStation 3."

As Chris has pointed out, Pachter doesn't even know the past, i.e. the price EA paid, 300 mil was what Elevation Partners paid, let alone trying to predict the future. Even in this day and age, any game published by a platform holder has about a 1% chance of winding up on a rival platform. _________________ Just say NO to UCW |

The guy is obviously one for accuracy seeing as though he cant even state an accurate figure (that is available all over the internet) about the EA BioWare/Pandemic takeover. _________________ Thortac Balcor The Lost Ranger |

I think he split the $600 mil between BioWare and Pandemic, that's why he said $300 mil for BioWare. |

Doesn't really matter to me, one way or the other. It won't stop me from buying a 360 to play Mass Effect, once I can afford it.
Besides, as Chris pointed out, BW doesn't have a PS3 version of Mass Effect on the plate at the moment. So if it does come to PS3, it'll probably be years down the road. _________________ You tried your best, and you failed miserably. The lesson is: never try. |

So, you're not denying that you are working on a PC version. |

Has there been an Bioware game that hasn't been released for PC eventually....?
I bought a 360, being 99% sure there would be a PC version eventually, I just couldn't wait that long. Was never sure about their being a PS3 version though, I wouldn't of thought M$ would put money into a game without some sort of agreement, saying that the game won't appear on a rival console. But you never know, hopefully further down the line PS3 owner will get to enjoy ME.
But didn't market analysts predict Nintendo leaving the console business after this cycle? _________________ Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one. |

I also have some questions for Chris Priestly.
1. Can you include me as a character in a BioWare game? Maybe as the central heroic one who does all the good deeds and puts the bad guys to flight and has infinite health.
2. Is it true that games developers are all highly strung coffee addicts who need to toil night and day to finish projects in time for their release dates and suchlike?
3. Now that you are publishing for EA, does that mean that you will indeed be tied to their projects and release schedules in games and will you have any less creative license to do the things you want to do?
4. Is there any truth to the rumour that a bunch of BioWare employees got drunk one night and accidentally erased all the code for the greatest game ever Mass Knights of Jade Neverwinter Republic Dragon Empire Effect?
5. In reference to my first question, I would like a scene where I swing on a chandilier. Thanks. |

Ok, lets see here....

Named Cuddly Blankets? That's the worst hero name since "Cloud".

Addict is a harsh word. I would prefer "devotee". I can take or leave coffee. Why, just the otehr day I went almost 17 minutes without a cup.
Quote: 3. Now that you are publishing for EA, does that mean that you will indeed be tied to their projects and release schedules in games and will you have any less creative license to do the things you want to do?
Nope. We're tied to our products (that are now also their products). EA and John Ricatello are very keen for us to make the best games we can. They bought us because of the great games we make. They wouldn't buy us to have us make Madden 08 or whatever.
Quote: 4. Is there any truth to the rumour that a bunch of BioWare employees got drunk one night and accidentally erased all the code for the greatest game ever (i)Mass Knights of Jade Neverwinter Republic Dragon Empire Effect ?
A BioWare employee? Drunk? Blasphamy!
Unless it is a weekend.
Or a weekday after 5.
Am.
Quote: 5. In reference to my first question, I would like a scene where I swing on a chandilier. Thanks.
That's all anyone needs in an RPG, a cuddy blanket dropping on you from a swinging chandelier. Worst. Trap. Ever.
