I think you might have misread something. It's been in development nearly 3 years. It could take as much as 5 years to complete. _________________

Nope, he said 5 years.
Quote: Posted 11/30/07 16:42 (GMT) by Stanley Woo Probably five years so far. It's quite a neat world and the story is rather intricate.

They may have thought about it for 5 years and done initial 'world' development (writing background story), but 'proper' development didn't begin until 2005. No offense to Mr Woo, but I'd take David Gaider's word over his any day _________________

Yeah, DA's a funny project if you're going to talk development time, because it hasn't been developed on a normal schedule. It all depends on what you consider to be "in development", really. Do we count the period where DA was just being planned and there were talks about it? Do we count the time where there was a handful of us passing around design docs and working on the background material? Do we count the period where there was a small team putting together the tech demo for E3 in 2003? Personally, I can't even pinpoint for you when the "full" team came together, as it's been done in bits and globs over the last few years.
I'm not sure how other companies do it, but I suspect you all wouldn't normally be privy to those periods of a project. All that stuff would be going on behind the scenes, with you all blissfully unaware that anything was even going on. Not that this hasn't been a long process, sure, but I suspect it seems longer than you're used to because of the extra early announcement. Whether you consider that to be a good thing or not is debateable, but there it is. _________________ Zevran: "Hello my stocky little friend!" Oghren: "Huh. You got small breasts for a gal." Ah, last true home of the venerable order of the Knights Hospitliers.
As a Maltese, you will understand what I mean when I say that I expect DA to come through like Faith, Hope and Charity (in the non-biblical bi-plane sense) despite many expectations to the contrary

Whether you consider that to be a good thing or not is debateable, but there it is. I definitely have to say that it has seemed pretty darn cool to me, most of the times the fans don't even know a game is really in development until it's close to being finished. And especially there aren't forums for it, (official ones, anyway) where as, with DA fans had the chance to say stuff early enough in development that maybe something was taken into consideration for this actual game.(As opposed to a sequel/expansion.) _________________ Violate the Dead |

Yeah, right now we are in, IMHO, the really difficult part. It's really late to be suggesting things, since we know it's pretty far along, but they're not in a position to give us details yet, so it's difficult to discuss the decisions they have or might have made at this point.
It's the wait and see stage. I hate that part. |

This part will probably last until past the new year too...:-/ I figure ME will get pushed all through the holidays. (Makes sense)

Further, I assume that it will also wait until after the EA transition is done. That means February, if my guess is correct.
Patience is a virtue, but I'm having to buy mine in bulk.

There's some scraps of new info around. David still occasionally drops interesting tidbits, though Georg seems to have been eaten by a Giant Orange Box or something.
I've been grumpy, but nothing a week off around the holidays won't cure. |
