Do you have the IPX protocol installed/enabled for any interfaces on the machine which is trying to create the server?
If it can't find directplay support for the suggested protocol, then the buttons will push, but nothing will happen except the tactile feedback of an enjoyable clicking sound .
Also, I am well up for some network play as soon as I can get the blighter working, so pm me the moment I add a signature which says I can MP. Edited By Gotholhorakh on 04/14/06 13:22 |

I am new to BG entirely, but not new to rpgs at all. I quit WoW a few months ago after playing it since the beginning and it completely being a waste of time.
Now, I'm looking for something new and fun to play. The most fun I had on WoW was questing with my 2 sisters and my Wife. Only, as some of you most likely know, questing in the world of Azeroth sucks big time.
We play X-Men on the GameCube together and used to play the hell out of Diablo, now I'm checking into BG to see if it'd be something we might like.
What I want to know is this: We have a lan set up at the house with about 4 computers.. if we all wanted to play together would we be able to using only one game key? That's pretty much the main thing, also, as far as setting up games on a lan, how does it work? Is it similar to the old-school hosting method using ip connections or what?
Any input would be appreciated! Thanks alot! |

Hi, for the past few days, me and my friend have tried to play BG2 over the net to no avail We both have the latest patch (23037 i think), the same cache size, frame rate(and resolution if that makes any difference). We tried making a game through Gamespy, but when we connect, it ends up saying "cannot connect" or something like that. The same with Tcp/IP. It's probably because i havent opened the ports 2300-2400, but dont know how to open them all with Windows Firewall. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. |

Kevin Lynch is very good at the ports problems and I would suggest you send him a PM. You might also check with the Support Forum. Good hunting. _________________ BS is the lubricant of human relations.

Here's what I sent:
I don't use Windows Firewall, myself, but have you tried simply allowing BG2 to access the net (i.e. add the program to the exceptions list instead of worrying about opening up all the individual ports)? That way, whatever ports the program needs will be allowed. Your 'Help and Support Center' in Windows should give you the details of how to do this if you cannot figure it out (I didn't see any way to open a range of ports, which is why I suggest just letting the program communicate through it). |

Okay, I'm taking the plunge and posting this here.
I don't know anyone in person (as in RL) who's into RPGs, and I wanted to start a game with three or four people in total, so far I have two or maybe three (not sure yet) so I'm looking for one or two other people... time zone is GMT+10:00 or to make it easier have a look here (I'm in Brisbane). Mods installed are Baldurdash, Unfinished Business, Dungeon-Be-Gone, Ease-of-Use.
Hmmmm. Now I wonder if anyone still reads this thread... |

I am But that's mainly because I have nothing better to do while KOTOR unpacks itself (yes, installed that idiotic patch and the game couldn't load).

I've played it over lan with a friend with only one original copy. We had to burn the original to copies to be used on the other comps .(can I say this here, or will some men in black bash down my door within the next couple of seconds and take me into custody..?), but with only 1 cd key it should work fine. |

Well I've reloaded BG2 on my laptop and enjoy playing it again... but I would LOVE to play it multiplayer. So far everything I've tried hasn't let me create a game at all. I've tried the "serial" "tcp/ip" "modem", etc... but to no avail. Are there specific instructions for setting up your own multiplayer game? I used to do this back when I was in college on my old computer... but have forgotten much in that amount of time.
Thanks,
Herb |

I am sure you have already done this, but you have to set your cache size to 300, the minimum for MP, and your frame rate to 30.Edited By canman on 05/13/06 09:29 |

I too am trying to get a LAN game going and IPX won't allow me to click. What is the IPX Protocol and how do I get it installed/enabled?Edited By BlindedTiger on 05/13/06 17:41 |
