When I connect to them and they are both in the game its always the same one who isnt moving. I cant remember exactly, but when they connected to me seperately, I think it didnt matter matter who of them connected alone, it always worked with only one of them, but then we never entered the game.
Ill tell them to check their port forwarding. what where the ports that needed forwarding? and how exactly are they set up? UDP, TCP?
There's some info in the BG2 readme.txt file regarding which ports are required, so check there for the exact ports.
Port forwarding wasnt the problem. He told me that he already forwarded the ports, but it will only for for one client, not for both.
anyway the problem actually is that his wife is on the same networks as he is and they share one internet connection. now, when we want to play BG2, he needs to open a tcp/ip game (so I can play with em) and his wife needs to connect to that game via the external ip and that wont work for some reason. she needs to go out through the shared internet connection and then go back into it and join the game which is on that external ip. BG2 regretfully wont accept the internal 192.xx address in an tcp/ip game. is there a way to get this to work? |

Yeah, BG2 multiplayer needs the fully routable public IP addresses, not the private/local ones assigned by the system. Unless they can get the other system hooked up in such a way that it has its own connection, it may not be possible. Of course, as I mentioned before, I'm not the best at troubleshooting those particular issues considering I've never used multiplayer in BG2 other than to set up a singe player game with all my own characters. _________________ Well there ain't no point in moving on until you've got somewhere to go... |

Baldur's Gate 2 ranks as my #1 favorite RPG for PC. I was especially thrilled to find Drizzt Do'Urden and gang in the game as I'm a big fan of R.A. Salvatore. Of course, I killed Drizzt and his party mano-e-mano with just a little help from my party. Didnt get to keep his scimitars past the vampire lair as an NPC showed up and demanded I give them back. When I refused, he cast the spell imprisonment on my entire party. I figured out a way to get by him and keep the scimitars cuz I was playing a berserker dwarf(immune to imprisonment while berserking), but he kept showin up in each new area I would go to and I'd get tons of action cancels cuz my character would keep stopping and looking at him, but it was kewl
I currently play on the NWN multi-player servers and was wondering if BGII multi-player is anything like that? _________________ Scream for Zed! |

I have exactly the same problem and I've never worked out a way around it, it happens on every single game I try to do multiplayer on just because I have a router . The only way I found to get around it is to have a friend without a router host the game instead, which isn't all that big a help if all your friends have routers of course. _________________ "Here I am, brain the size of a planet and they ask me to take you down the bridge. ok, there is another way past all that port forwarding etc.
there are several programs around that will allow you to set up a virtual lan such as http://www.hamachi.cc/howitworks
you simply log into your chosen channel eg bg2multi pass 1111
and it gives you another address similar to an ip address
whoever is hosting you just join that address where you would normally put there ip address.
this has worked for everyone trying to join my server with router problems so far, so i thought i would mention it so more people can expeirence bg2 multiplayer |

I have a hard time to find a community or a party where they would play this game. Do you happen to know irc channel or something like that where I could find games. This is why I really wanted to play the multiplayer session. I don't have 2 computers to play whit someone else in LAN session and I live in town less than 60.000 people so I haven't heard from other players. If you could accept me for your community I would be grateful. Also showing a community to me would be nice Edited By Tane87 on 08/03/05 08:50 |

2 things:
1: I've long been throwing curses at that darn router blocking my way to the outside, but reading lljk_bardock's post actually granted me some pathetic amount of hope, but I wonder this: would it work if both host and client are going through a router?
2: Would the client require the same mods as the host (or other way around)? (for instance, I'm currently using the Ease of Use, while the potential client is using a fresh install.) _________________ "The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in times of great moral crises maintain their neutrality" - Dante Alighieri |

Ever thought about getting rid of that router? Or just bying an ADSL-converter to your computer. (just stuck the thinkg to another phone cable slot) It can be done either way that or just getting different router. One whitout a firewall. For Christ sake there are programs for that. One Would be http://www.zonealarm.com/ Zone alarm. Don't take the pro! Otherwise you have to pay for it. Or if you have one already coming whit your virus protection program that works well too.

Ok. A friend and I are trying multiplayer. We both set our routers to do the proper ports outlined in the readme file.
When I join his game, I get to the character arbitration screen --- it says "waiting until the server can accept new players" -- then drops me from the game after about 5 or 10 seconds. During that time, I can type in the box, my friend can hear me, but I can't hear what he is saying. After 10 secs or so, it just terminates the session for me.
Same thing happens if we try it the other way. We are both running the same (newest) version.
"waiting until the server can accept new players" -- anyone got any ideas? Thanks. I searched but couldn't find anything.
You are so close, that has to be frustrating. Usually you connect within seconds of receiving that message. If you both have SOA TOB installed, you need to make sure you have the patch and that your cache size and frame rates match. Good hunting. same problem here dude it is matthew 's dwarfs |

1: I'm 16 - the router is belongs to my parents, as does the ADSL connection. Removing the router would mean removing my connection too, so that's a no-go.
2: The firewall in the router is disabled
3: I already use ZoneAlarm - the Pro version even (t'is worth it.)
I believe I've tried just about everything, but nothing seems to work. (I haven't gotten around to trying Hamachi yet, since my friend has got some CD-ROM issues.) |

I've fought quite a bit to set up my game for multiplayer, so I can very much appreciate your frustration.
First; when you try out Hamachi with a friend, the host only needs to turn on his Hamachi prog and log into the network made there. Then you start a new game in BG; no need for you to worry any more about Hamachi. Your friend, however, simply needs to jot down your Hamachi address, and enter that as the tcp address in BG.
I know this can work, it has done so, even tonight. BUT my friend and I have spent some time and consideration on synchronizing our mods, and order of mods and BG configs down to the last letter. We are now using The darkest day with Weidus Ease of use and then Weidus Tactics on top(first agreeing on what parts to use from all of them); and it all runs like a dream; but I know from reading in these forums that it can only be expected to do so if you take the time to synchronize your games.
If you find yourself able to grasp my (no doubt rambling) explanation, and to proceed accordingly; I'd be surprised if you still can't connect to your friends.
No need to worry about portforward or other router issues, as long as you have Hamachi, and your router and internal network even work at all, I reckon. And thanks to the gent above who alerted some of us to the existence of the program Edited By Resonanced on 08/05/05 22:20 |
