I have a netgear RP614v2 on the 5.20 _RC3NA Apr 23 2004 firmware I have set up port forwarding for port 6073 and ports 2300 to 2400 but am unable to host games. I use TCP/IP and I am trying to play with my cousin who has no router (we both have norton internet security 2005 but it's set up exactly The same on both macines except that HE can host) and I would like to be able to sort my hosting proplem out once and for all.
I give him my external i.p. adress (the one that is not 192.168.*.*) but when i go tho host and click on new game it just hangs there and does not continue.
Any ideas:-? |

No to your last post. Whoever hosts the game has the protagonist and is the only one who can start or close that game. Suggest going to Tech Forum for answers to your first post. _________________ BS is the lubricant of human relations.

Okay, here's the deal: I wish to multiplay with my friends. Unfortunately, I have no idea what my IP is or how to find out. Does anybody know? |

On your desktop, hit run, type cmd then when a black screen appears type ipconfig and it shows your ip address. Caution, though, many gamer's ip address changes very frequently. I have a permanent one. If you want it to never change, talk to your internet provider. It is a pain to have to tell your partners your new IP address everytime you have a session. Good hunting. _________________ BS is the lubricant of human relations.

Okay, cancel that thanks. I have no idea what you're talking about. Desktop, I got, and then you lost me on 'run'. I've been using a computer for a while, though I still haven't caught up on internet slang. Be more specific please. And forget I EVER batted my eyes at you, you double-talking nitwit of an... experienced... brilliant... okay, I'm gone. |

Hi, I have a question and a recommendation regarding multi-player. I've been playing BG and related games off and on for quite a few years now and have run into all the typical problems with multi-player: patch level, frame rate, typo on the IP address, etc. It has been a while since I tried multi-player, and the last time I did it was with quite a different setup (machines and network were quite different; machines and OS's were older, network was using no router (bnc cable) ). Well, I decided to play some multi-player today and had a lot of troubles getting it to work (mainly, I kept getting the dialog saying it couldn't connect). I tried BG2 and then BG1 (with expansions and latest patches). I fought it for quite a while before I finally decided to go look for help. I found and read through some of these posts, although there's quite a few and I admit I didn't read them all. From those I did read, it appears as if many people are having similar problems, at least when using TCP protocol. Based on those posts, I would have to take an educated guess that my problem may be that my machines and DirectX versions are much newer than they were back when things used to work. An old windows 95 machine that used to work still appears to be connecting properly, but my newer machines with newer OS's and newer versions of DirectX are not working. So my advise is to use my eventual solution, at least if you are playing on a LAN: switch to IPX protocol. It seems to work perfectly. I tried this after reading a post advising a null modem cable - thanks to that poster. I don't think there's any shame giving up on TCP in this case - it appears these games didn't anticipate Microsoft's inability to maintain backward compatability in their DirectX. That is, assuming I am right about that, and that's my question: Am I likely correct in assuming the problem with TCP is the versions of DirectX? My suspicions on this come from my old win 95 machine with an old DirectX version working, while my newer machines with DirectX 9.something refused to connect (OS's are 98SE and ME). Could be the OS's instead of DirectX, I suppose. But seems like some of the posts were mentioning dx, while there was even a patch for tosc and dx8. I guess it doesn't really matter since I've got it working, but it just bugs me. Plus if I want to play over the internet at some point I'll want TCP to start working on at least one of the newer machines.
Thanks |

Hopefully this will help, batted eyes or no. Hit the windows key on your keyboard. About the fourth item from the bottom you should see the run icon. Click on it and follow the above instructions ie: cmd enter ipconfig enter. Good hunting. _________________ BS is the lubricant of human relations.

Oh! Okay, I've got it. The start menu. I thought you really meant the desktop. Okay, I got it. Thank you very much. And redo those batted eyes. |

I've searched this thread and the one that existed beforehand as well - to no avail.
My girlfriend and I have played through BG1 and ID1 completely with no problems at all. I've just built her a new PC, so we can finally play BG2 together, but she's having issues connecting. When she tries to connect via TCP/IP she gets the "Cannot Connect To This Game" Error. Can anyone help me resolve this issue?
In order to get some things out of the way:
+ Our Cache sizes are the same. + Our Framerates are the same. + We run the game with no mods installed. + We've both installed the latest patch. + Neither of us have any firewalls installed at this time. + Neither of us have a router. + 100% sure the IP is correct.
I really do appreciate any help that anyone is kind enough to offer. Baldur's Gate 2 is my favorite game of all time and I've been anticipating the day when we could play together for a long time.
Thank YouEdited By kuraitenshikun on 11/18/05 02:09 |

This is highly unusual. You seem to have covered all the bases and should be able to join each other. The only thing that crosses my mind at this point is that possibly one of you has SOA TOB installed and the other only has SOA. You cannot join under those circumstances. I will do this for you. Send me a PM and I will exchange IP addresses with you and your partner. If one of you cannot join me and the other can, we will at least know which one of you has the problem. Good hunting. |

Nope, both of us are running solely Shadows of Amn.
Any other ideas or speculation at all? I PMed you, by the way. Thanks |
