Cynicism is very safe. If the game is bad, everything he's said looks justified. If it isn't, then obviously all the kvetching did some good. Win-win situation.
It's combining that with an inability to understand that we (meaning all of us here) might in fact be okay with him not liking the game that makes it irritating.
